Got a Format combi playing up, fan spins but fails to fire. It's sparking and sending intermittent power to the gas valve. Thinking pcb or fan. Any pointers before I call Sime tomorrow?

Sounds like the board if it's sending intermittent power...

Good luck phoning sime lol!

Changed the fan on this one about 4 years ago, called SIme for that and they were fine! Maybe things have changed, we haven't kept in touch! Lol

4 wires come back from the fan to the board, I take it one must be to prove the fans running, just don't know which one! Could it be sending intermittent voltage back to the board?

Another thing.... Sime parts ain't cheap!!

Well going by any other boiler logic if the boiler is sparking then it's happy with the fan & aps etc, probably a burnt out relay on the pcb to the gas valve... Did you see any discolouring etc?

Didn't have too good a look at it, was quite late and thought it would be best to call manufacturer in the morning, as I say parts ain't cheap, don't want to be wrong!

Yeah nothing worse than that heart sinking feeling when you fit a part & it has the same fault lol ;(

Call sime tec, Proberly gas valve just had same fault with a Vaillant, do a couple of checks B4 you ring them, gas pressure at valve in & out, voltage from board to valve when trying to fire, make sure you have multi=meter at hand they will run you through tests.

Back today, just going straight to red lockout now, will not reset. New board getting fitted on Monday, also no continuity through flue stat, so that's getting replaced too.

Still can't get over Sime parts prices!! lol

Gotta love the cheap boilers... They always fail with a few things lol, not just one!

You could link out the flue stat temporarily, that might have allowed it to reset? Iv never worked on a sime, or seen one even!

Linked the flue stat put but it still went straight to lock out, the fan had ran for a bit previous but it quickly got worse! Lol

New boiler installed last week. Fitted board and it reset but wouldn't fire again, parts are too expensive to keep going, but I suspect the gas valve was faulty
