I have managed to get the plunger stuck about 1-1.5 m up the drain (no rods, plunger just came off when pulling back -must remember to tighten it fully next time!!) Any advice on retrieval- should i try the scrapper or will that just push it futher down- No idea where the next cover is as neither neighbours have a man-hole- Help!!

You'll most likely push the plunger further down the drain but hopefully it will come out somewhere it then becomes small enough to not cause a blockage, i.e the main sewer. Why did you have a plunger that far down the drain?
Maybe try the worm screw attachment to punch a hole in it and try to pull it back. Probably best to have it jetted and blast it out.

the size of your domestic drain will be 4in, the the main shared sewer is 6 in and close enough then you could possibly push it into the main sewer providing there are no defects with the drainage, if you having blockage regularly then there will be defects so it maybe unlikely you would push the plunger past that. another factor is that the shared sewer may not change in diameter for 20-30m if you you will be pushing a long time.

i have removed plungers hundreds of times in the past but i used a CCTV camera to locate it and remove them, you may need to call a local drainage consultant to remove it, if you do call someone out let me know the area and i will let you know if i know anyone in that area that could help.

hope this helps you out feel free to ask any questions i will advise you as much as i can

MZR, it's good to have a drainage guy on the forum. Everyone else (including me) are doing bathrooms, general plumbing and heating and gas work.

if you get a few rods together then tie on a coat hanger hook to them run it along the top of the drain until you feel the plunger twist the rods around a bit then pull back be persistant in this it should start to pull it back towards you
