So here's the story. Wife's friend is selling property after moving to Singapore. After property has been left empty for a while, estate agent says boiler not working, and she messages me asking to have a look.

Went round and main fuse on consumer unit is off and house colder than a witches tit. Turns all on tries boiler and fault light is APS stuck. Tested it and sure enough APS is constantly on. No fan etc. Returned with new APS.

Fits new APS and now fan won't run. Tests leads for continuity etc and follows fault diagrams. There's 230v to fan called tech to check, and they say yes, needs a new fan.

Returns with new fan (£165) fits it, all starts well fan runs,APS relays go clickedy click then it won't light. Ignition fault lockout. Spark is working but no gas. Follow MI and there is 200v DC at valve during ignition attempt, so needs new gas valve.

Would this be caused by the cold and the boiler being stood? I've offered to fit gas valve free if she pays for it, and she was fine with it tbh. Would you have charged labour too? 3 faults one after other is rare, no?

**** happens. you did everything in the right order. could a different engineer have got it working without replacing the parts you've replaced?

you should charge for your time. it's not like you misdiagnosed the problem

its a suprima anything is possible, just be glad it wasnt a 100L you'll need deep pockets to replace the fan on one of them...
