Testing solvent weld connections

View the thread, titled "Testing solvent weld connections" which is posted in DIY Plumbing Advice on UK Plumbers Forums.

Hello,

I’m about to board and tile over a load of newly fitted waste pipes.
I’ll be running water through the pipes to check connections (solvent weld) before going ahead but was wondering how much testing I should do? Would a leak show immediately or would I have to run water for hours to replicate proper use?

Thanks

Running water for hours wouldn't make any difference, you need to run them full bore, eg by discharging a full bath. Drains are tested with temporary plugs with a pressure gauge observed over a period of time but unlikely to be practical in your situation.

That should be fine if the upstands are up to the overflow height of the highest appliance eg sink, so the water is under the same pressure it will be in use.
