I had a free afternoon today so I took my van to diesel Dave to find out why the engine makes a massive rattling sound and is difficult to start hot or cold. I've been putting up with it for about 10 months now.
Enough was enough it was doing my head in.

oops, if I had known it was the timing chain I would have got it sorted sooner, the tyre and exhaust monkeys at Motorsave said it needed a new back box but that was a waste of time. Granted it was blowing a little though.

Said it would be around £350 in total, its in overnight.

I keep seeing a Mercedes Satan, its smaller than a Vito and less ***bersome.

9 years is nothing, I'm hoping to get another five years out of my ten year old Combo.

Its a good thing I took all valuables out of my van, I hope diesel dave has locked it up inside, there's nothing worth nicking inside but I don't think a chav thief will buy me a new lock.

The little Merc isn't a Merc. It's re badged French monstrosity.

You must be some kind of dare devil, i wouldn't do 170 miles in one.

I had a new dispatch 1.6. Amazingly practical van. Great storage and size. Twin side doors. Ride quality absolutely crap. Van rattly. Excellent rust protection. Now have a 2.2 tranny. Amazingly comfy and quiet. Rust bucket lol

Just picked up my van and engine fixed, the timing chain guide had broken into pieces and dropped into the oil sump, they said its a miracle I got away with it for so long as if the chain had come off its game over for a ten year old van.
New oil + filter, new coolant, timing chain kit and camshaft sensor total £350.

Running nicely now again.

if any one here buys the rebadged mercedes and it has a key on the back doors you must get a mechanic to remove the link rod inside the door as it can be opened with a screwdriver
the french equivelent doesnt have a key in the back door consequently you cant buy the steel plate to go over the lock to stop the toe rags
