Unvented install

I keep meaning to take pictures of my work (makes a change from hall of shame type piccies) to add to my portfolio. I had a nice job this week, adding an unvented to a combi that was fitted in a place with 2 bathrooms. They are also about to extend and add an annexe with a bathroom and kitchenette so the combi was going to be even more inadequate. It was a nice big space to work in and plenty of room to make a nice neat job of it. It's a shame I had to lag it all afterwards.

Not a scrap of PTFE anywhere and the only jointing paste was the Loctite 577 on the thread on the [cough]flexi[/cough] to the expansion vessel. Now tell me you need jointing paste on a compression fitting.

Looks nice, I love having a big space to work in when fitting something like that.

You dont need jointing paste, but it certainly doesnt do any harm.

Nice job, like the ay you've coiled the cable up with ties on the zone valves too. I'm doing my first unvented install in a couple of weeks so will post pics. I've re-piped and serviced loads but yet to install one, can't wait!

nice job m8 its nice when you het the room to lay it out well looks like you were short of clips for the pipe on the left my other tip is you can get spacers for talon clips which make lagging a lot easier

The clips are all spaced out from the wall on spacers to give room for the lagging. Took me flipping ages to lag it tidily, I had to lag the lot instead of just 1m from the cylinder because it got like an oven in there. Clips went on the hot pipe after I'd taken the picture because I was waiting for the merchant to drop round a new bag.

The zone valve is a Sauter one. 5 years warranty and cheaper than a Honeywell. Detachable head and plug in wiring as well should it need changing. It's also a Sauter programmer, nice clear display and a good price.

honestly when i use 22mm or 28mm compression i always put PTFE just to be on the safe side !

Just a quick question if I may is that the cold supply on the right hand side going up ??? If so is it balanced, do the Gledhills have a balanced CW port on the valve, can't quite see from photos ?
As for paste, they may be OK if used sparingly but just you wait until you have spent hours cleaning it out of the filters cor's they put on finger fulls, like you I don't use it now.

I register through Gas safe.

The combination valve can just be seen poking above the cylinder in the first picture. There is a balanced take off on the bottom of it which is where the cold main rising through the ceiling comes from.

This was one of those jobs that I really enjoyed. No arguing over the price, customer accepted my recommendations and then left me alone to complete the work. I had a few minor issues with the existing installation but I'd allowed a bit of time for that and I still walked out of there at 4 yesterday having done a couple of extra little bits F.O.C. This gave me a total of 25 hours on site including a decent lunch break every day when I'd priced it for 3 days. The customer is paying by bank transfer as well so no mucking about getting to the bank.

Lol if could make money out of rain fall we all be millionaires over here
But on the odd light day they work well kingspan are excellent
