The pertinent information was given previously - hopefully you're better at getting your head around necessary information when pulling boilers apart.

BTW, the boiler was inspected and "serviced" about six weeks before they replaced the cylinder - it passed with flying colours, with no advisories or observations.

In the past I've found BG's legal department to be a bit more "on top of things" than their engineers.

If it comes to Court, I will be sooo interested to hear from the BG engineer that did "the Service" re what he actually did, and what he reported, or didn't report, as a result of his inspection.

The positive responses I have received on here have been helpful, and are appreciated. It's given me some idea of what to expect tomorrow. I will be saying to the Vaillant engineer that he will need to be prepared to stand by anything he says in his assessment in Court if necessary.

10 visits, 12 BG staff traipsing in and out, more BS than I care to mention here as it would have most of you laughing your socks off: bring it on BG if you must!
 
A metallic noise was heard coming from the 22 m return - a few metres from the boiler. Which went off after 24 hours or so.

Was this noise like a tinkling rattling type noise? and did that noise stop completely after 24 hrs or so?

Might have been a small blob of solder or a small stone which may have worked its way into the heat exchanger.

The heat exchangers on older Vaillants have very small waterways (they have since changed them and increased the size slightly) and are prone to blockage.

Magnetite and powerflush is bg's get out for everything. If you had a magnaclean or tf1 with a removable filter it could have been easily checked there but perhaps that is why bg prefer magnaboosters!?!

Demand to get a senior technician out to it if you haven't already done so.
