Plumber Shep

Heya guys,

I was messing around on the new Photoshop earlier and decided I would have a go at designing a van for when I start working self-employed.

Its a bit rough and could definitely do with a few more additions and a lot of changes but I thought I would post it up and see what people think to it...

So far, its had a few things done that you may or may not notice:

Smoothed Bumpstrip
Harder Supsension (To accept heavier weights)
Smoothed Sides
Ronal Turbo Alloys
Smoothed Door Handles
Complete Colour Change (Previously White)
Darkened Window (Looked weird at normal colour)
The Required MCFC Logo

If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them as I feel there is something missing but I dont know what... I was going to put a rhino-tube on the top but it was proving to be too much of a hassle and the program wasn't having any of it so you will have to use your imaginations.

I have put a poll up just to see what people think so if you want to have your opinion recognised but want to remain anonymous about it, you can do so.

Bloody kids round here don't have the IQ to know its worth nicking to be honest haha

Cool telephone number ...

If it was me I'd leave off the C&G logo. Reason being is according to most of the threads on here it's very much a beginner's qualification and it might hold you back from working with other tradesmen in your area.

Great idea though!

Just needs some mud to show you're too busy plumbing to be able to clean your van ...

In regards to the C&G sticker, I dont think it would be on the real thing as my mate has literally just told me the same thing so I won't be rushing out to get one of those!

As for the cleanliness, during the summer holidays, Im sure my younger brother or cousin would like to earn some money by keeping my van clean like a little portable pit crew. Stick em in the back of the van with the toolboxes, get to the job, let em out, give em a bucket and sponge and its sorted haha

Hmmm, I think with the Man City badge, your restricting your customers.

Some customers won't want to pay a City fan.

Even if every City fan used you, you'd only have a small handful of customers.

Maybe you can throw loads of money at your business and hopefully buy success too.

You can sign me as a subby if you like, only £150,000 a week🙂

After a few hours and a lot of changes, I have come up with a different style after listening to what you guys said about logos and text sizes. The only problem I have is finding a suitable place for the Gas Safe logo...

What do you think?

Then I got a little bit artistic

get some tools in there and it will drag its rse down the road, ok if you dont have speed bumps in your area.imo

Problem is your text could easily be missed. I have worked in graphic design as well as pipeline so am used to designing signs and banners.

The average person spends no longer than two seconds over an initial glance at a sign. This is the amount of time you have to get your basic message across. If they are interested they will look longer.

Hint - your text is far too small for people to read and notice. Make best use of the space available on your van. Look at other large organisations such as parcel couriers and see how they use the van sides.

Stick to a font which is clear and easy to read.

Make it much larger and space the letters out a bit more. Put "true blue" and "plumbing and heating" on two lines. Put the phone numbers on separate lines too.

Gas safe logo wants to be much bigger. Stick it lower down out of the way of the text (by the fuel cap) to give your text more space

Black on blue is not contrasty. Note the yellow against the blue background and how well it stands out. Try yellow text on the darker blue background of your first pic and see how it looks.

These are the recommended colour schemes I was taught back then for maximum impact: (though its always a matter of personal opinion)

Yellow /cream text on blue background
Dark green text on cream background and vice versa
Dark blue text on red background
White text on burgundy backgeound
cream text on dark green background
Navy / Black text on yellow background
