so im selling my small connect, had it around 4 months and ive taken loads of work on myself now as im at risk of redundancy in the next few months, now i dont know what will hapen after that, so im looking for something big enough to maby start out on my own (maby ill end up sub contracting, who knows) so im wondering is it worth going for the lwb connect as i really like it to drive and its been very reliable! i drive a swb medium roof transit at work now and that is also reliable, so thinking of sticking to ford, but wouldnt mind a vivaro! anybody know another make that would suit me??? dont want to spend more than 3500 ish and dont really want to pay vat either!

I've got a LWB 75bhp connect & it's plenty big enough for gas work & general plumbing. I can get about 10 rads, pipe & boiler in without leaving to much of my tools etc out. I've even had a full bathroom suite in it + if I empty it out I can get around 10 sheets of 8X4 in the back.

Parts are cheap, drives nice, looks ok (for a van) but it is quite juicey, only getting around 400-450 miles per tank.

Ford is good for cheap parts, and for your budget you probably would be best sticking to ford. Vivaros in that price range are going to be a tad temperamental from experience.

I have a Citroen relay. Its been a cracking van and I will be upgrading to a newer one soon, you can fit all you need in the back.

woah boy, you are losing your job and starting on your own and you have a small van. Rule one in business dont take on debt till you know your income, youll be getting enough bills without building in van costs. Leave it a while till your properly established and know the futures secure is my advice, so often Ive seen nice vans appear with all new sign writing and disappear after 8 -9 months.

Struggle on with what you've got for now. You've got to walk before you can run.

What Lame said. I've been self employed for over a year now and have been working out of a little VW Caddy. Not ideal, but I can carry everything I need to install a heating system, with room left for a boiler. Anything bigger gets delivered.

You'll find plenty of other things that will gobble up your cash when you go SE!
