Just reading the Tory rag and come across this story about a SEVEN METRE wasps nest. I've only ever encountered one nest which was in a loft, about a metre long which was dead. I was amazed at the build quality of it, looked like a tin of expanding foam had gone off and set.

Anyone else encountered a wasps nest? BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!

Had a live one when I was an apprentice. I was out of the loft like an Olympic gymnast! Had to get pest control out to it. The noise they make when disturbed by a length of 22mm is unbelievable!

We had a real big one in a nursing home loft last year and we persuaded the gaffers boy to poke a hole in it with a broom handle......man alive, i cant ever remember rolling around like i did that day...it was like a cartoon. He left the loft like he was on fire, we had taken the steps away and he almost came through head first.....i paid in the end cos i went back to look what he'd done and a jasper homed into me. Message to self....never return to a lit jaspers nest.

I have smashed a live one up years ago it was in a outbuilding. Opened the door gave it a few swift whacks pooed myself ran out and closed the door.

Can't stand the things, once when I had my work t shirts washed and pegged outside, I put one on and there was one inside the t shirt.

I pulled it off in one swipe like the hulk, the biggest wasp flew out like it was the Don stung me on the forehead before being pelted to the floor.

it was sore and red all day.

It would be after slapping yourself in the forehead.

Nothing would pleasure me more greatly than inflicting untold amount of pain on that wasp. Red mist, like when I'm in a bad mood and an end feed fitting wont push on it'll either get the hammer treatment or ping'd around the room. Through a flat wood bit at an apprentice once and the tip went straight into his leg, that was pleasurable also. Although I did apologise later.

Had to repair a leak in a loft with a live nest! They started becoming more active when I was using the blowlamp! They started buzzing around my head by the time I was finished! F*** the ladder, I jumped out of that loft as If it was a burning building!

Did you know, when a wasp stings, it sends out a scent signalling for other wasp to attack? So if you do get stung, don't hang about!

My hero.

My old man used to keep bees and we collected the swarms as they appeared each year. just follow the cloud of bees till they land, let them form a cluster and just pop a box under them, hit the branch they are on and they fall in the box and all you do is towel over the top and leave 5 mins for the stragglers to catch up and then in the car and back home to an empty hive, and let them walk up a plank into the hive, easy!

only thing to remember is to drive carefully as you dont want the box spilling in the car or things get really exciting!!!!!!! Having done this as a nipper loads of times, Ive had to do it three times when I worked as a school bursar and swarms landed near the kids classrooms. teachers always ran off screaming but the kids were impressed when you pop a load of bees in a box and just walk them away to your car or a safer place for a swarm to settle (hollow tree is good) only been stung once in all the years of working with bees and I did sit on him!
