on a close coupled toilet do you also replace the cistern bolts as well as the doughnut and siphon? i recently had a callback that caused me loads of stress!!! i had replaced the siphon and doughnut and had a callback saying toilet was leaking! the water was dripping down the cistern bolt! the tapered rubber wahser had gone thats seals had given up, i must have twisted it as i was tightening the wingnuts , i dont carry spare ones on the van so it ended up being a nightmare!!! just bought a pack of 10 pairs of really good ones to keep as spares in the van now! anybody else do the same?

I tend to gauge it on the condition of the existing components. I tend to replace the donut as standard.

I will also sometime put a dob of silicon on the the con/taperer washers - but try not too as a general rule of thumb.

I always replace the doughnut and the plate and bolts. not worth the hassle of leaving them out.
