I know there are few Worcester Bosch perverts on here - need some advice please!

Is it possible to remove the plate heat exchanger from the Greenstar 24i Junior without removing the hydroblock?

If so, any little hints and tricks? If not, how long to remove the whole shebang and replace?

Ta!

I did one recently to descale and got it out but i did remove cold to boiler to fit scale inhibitor at same time and got it down through the gap. Loads easier than taking whole hydroblock out.

That hydro block is a nightmare to remove, spent 2 hrs + on one once. Sounds crazy but have found it quicker to undo flue turret and take the beast of the wall.

I find it depends on the access to the boiler. If it is in a corner over a worktop, remove cold and it should come out, depending on other pipework. However if the access is good the whole hydro block does come out in a few minutes, once drained. The only problem is it never slides back in quite as quickly.

Many moons ago on the worcester course they recommended removing pump and cold and it should come out

To remove the plate heat exchanger, cut the hot pipe out the way, undo the 2 screws and out it comes

If it's just lime scale on the water side I'd just descale in situ through cold feed & hot out? I guess if you need to clean the primary side then it's gotta come out!

Taking the block in and out is a pig if a job. Make sure you have some fresh seals as well for when you put it back together. If I had the choice I would take the boiler off the wall.

This is how I replaced the plate hex, but I managed to undo the hot compression joint at the jig and slackened off the elbow from the jig.

This allowed me pull the hot pipe back and to the side leaving a gap big enough for the phex to come out. Can't do it this way if any pipe are running up the back though!
