Hi,

I was out on a breakdown today, before I touch anything I always do a let by / tightness test. The meter had several things wrong with it, No ECV On/Off tape, No Emergency Number to call, Electrical Bonding after 1st bend and I felt that it was unstable. The ECV is also at the rear but it is accessible so I take it that is ok ? How would you class this ? (NCS) - I have now attached the on/off tape and emergency number - I am now trying to sell my services to secure the gas meter - what would you guys do ? Redo the pipework and clip it or get a meter fixing plate ? - I will leave the customer to contact a electrician to sort out the Bonding but will note that on my paperwork.

I have attached a picture - There is movement with the meter and I would be concerned that the top soldered joints could become vulnerable to separation causing a gas leak. The meter is housed in a kitchen storage cupboard which is actively used.

The top copper pipework is at least 6 inches away from the back wall (the pic doesnt really show that very well)

Your opinions advice greatly appreciated.

The gas meter isn't yours or the custards Steve. If you want some brownie points tell the custard to contact their supplier to sort it out free of charge. NCS will do unless you want to turn it off?? That'll not get you any brownie points 😀

Yes but the copper pipework does belong to the customer.

The gas supplier won't do anything about that. Although the meter will be due to be replaced soon, due to its age.

If you want and the customers willing to pay, you could reroute the pipework and clip it too the wall. As long as the meter is sitting on the floor, it should be OK.

True! The shipper takes no responsibility for pipework beyond the meter these new days 🙂 Wedge a bit of 2"x2" under the meter, that'll stop is swinging :lol: (said tongue in cheek before you righteous bunch jump on me ) 😀
 
Thankyou once again, NSC it is - will try and get customer to pay for adjusting pipe work and get the supplier to change meter. Cheers all
 
if you had reported the tape and label issue to the supplier there engineer would bracket the meter if they felt it needed it, its there meter and they are responsible for its stability and upkeep tho recent dealings with them have left me feeling they are trying to save money. For you to alter the meter/bracket you may need your meters ticket. I think theres a TB about what you can and cant do when touching meters with and with your meter ticket.
 
most gas suppliers arnt bothered if the meter has a bracket i have phoned them many a time and they are not bothered.
