How much, if any do you add when a new boiler needs a verticalflue through the roof?
I have quoted for a few recently and not got any of the jobs so am wondering if I am getting it wrong.
I usually add £250 to the price to cover hire of any roof ladders, access equipment etc and a helper or to pay a roofer.
I don’t own my own roof ladder as I very rarely do fluesthrough the roof and don’t want it taking up garage space most of the year.
:confused5:

i add the actual cost of the flue, cost of the roofer plus 10-20% for when you realise you need another bend.

i pay a mate 40-60 squid for roof work, he is a lead worker by trade but also repairs roofs so all bases are coverd. he will even knock me up a slate for a few pennies if needed.

That's not too much mate, a lot of roof kits are £100+ then you have £30 for the flashing piece and £20-30 for the boiler adaptor and a couple of hours of work. Climbing about on roofs ain't my favorite thing.... that's why i let my dad do it icon_pubjoe_shifty.gif

I'm gonna drive round to my dads right now and tell him off
Should i be more ashamed that i have a 63 y/o guy climbing about on roofs when i really should be doing it?

No, its fine. Local authorites put scaffolding up because they have vast health and safety policies to adhere to. You can use a cat ladder for small jobs, but anything involving more than a small job would really be best scaffolded.

My thought too aw. Do a risk assessment and follow safe working procedures. We normally add between 140 and 300 depending on flue req

Standard £260 extra no matter only to a max 2story house after that £260 plus they pay extra for the roofer under supervision by engineer from inside the roof space

cost of scaffold tower hire, plus flue bits and slate and new underwear everytime, along with a mornings work costs. only use a ladder to roof ladder on bungalows.

Believe it or not, It is not illegal and never was. Councils and big companies may however have their own rules which are mainly cya.

on second thoughts every british gas van sports a well used roof ladder on top,for the prices they charge their lads ought to work off cherry pickers

Can't remember the last time I needed to get on a roof to do a vert. With a bit of planning it is possible to do it from inside the loft. Unless it's slate then I'm afraid your going up

I know you want to help the sis out.
wouldent you be better off going ltd, putting her a secretary on minimum wage, paid leave.

get him to set up as a tiler to earn his money and then you take on someone whos gonna be useful! (And trust worthy)
then have trainee set up to do bathrooms with said numpty doing the tiling.

can throw a book at me if you wish, i have a weird view i know!
