Advice on Gas isuses

Hello; first i must tell you i am from the US, just in case there are different gas delivery systems here, as i know this site is based in the UK.

For the past few months i have been having problems with my stove/oven; I have two in my home. The gas burning from the stove top does not seem hot enough - where the flame is supposed to be hottest, it is orange; this orange flame accounts for half the flame size.

Other times, the oven takes a very long time to get hot, and when it does get hot, the food cooks very slow. This occurs in both ovens, in the same home in the two separate kitchens.

Another thing is that my neighbors experience the same issues. It is not a constant issue, but it has been getting worse in my neighborhood.

Could the gas be impure? Could the gas company be ripping us off by adding impurities in the gas? I plan to call them today but i want to get advice from you people first on the possible causes.

whats the US equivalent of a gas safe engineer? you need to call one

it is carbon monoxide (orange)
the gas pressure is inadequate or the pipes undersized for the requirements of the appliance involved.

it is dangerous!!

when did you last have the appliances serviced? call a competent engineer for a visit, if theres a supply issue they should be able to advise you how to deal with it.

hi, thank you for the replies.

I just got off the phone with my gas provider, and were reluctant to send someone to check the line from the outside.
There is no smell of gas or anything like that. He advised me to call a service technician for the ovens i have, but i don't want to spend money to call a technician if its got nothing to do with my appliances.

I will talk to my neighbors again ask them what is going on with them. If they also have a problem, i will tell them to call the gas provider and also make a complaint, as the guy on the phone said no one in my neighborhood called the company to report pressure issues. However, most people will not call to complain unless something totally stops working.

thing is over here, if you call a gas engineer the supply will be the first thing inspected. if it is found to be incorrect they will then get on to the supplier for action.
so, could be a good start!.

i saw from u tube that u can get gas and water out the same pipework, something to do with shale fracking, looked good from this end

Sorry for going off the subject there but i couldn't resist it.

To the OP: what you need is a good gas engineer (burner engineer in the US?) He will test and check your appliance(s) and give you a far better diagnosis based on his findings.
Some times you just need to bite the bullet.
