What are they, I'm considering poisoning a young mind by taking on an apprentice. Iff your jot happy posting this on the open forum, pm me.

I have had an apprentice on trial with me this week. I have made it quite clear that if he is taken on he will be on minimum wage which is £2.68 per hour until he can prove to me he is worth more. He seemed happy enough with this, he just has another week to impress me to make me take him on full time.

£2.68 x 40 = £107.20! I was getting £100 18 years ago!

I earnt £110 a week 11 years ago in my first year, it cost me £35 a week in travel to get to and from work he will be picked up and dropped home every day. An apprenticeship isn't all about earning money, its about learning a trade with hands on experience. I certainly wouldn't take again on in their first year and pay them more than the minimum wage, it doesn't make financial sense.

That's correct it shouldn't be about the money the apprentice should be happy he's getting a foot in the door and a engineer is giving him a chance, I'm 36 and did college last year the first year apprentices were a joke, I just wish I knew then what I knew now

Fishing sandhurst. Bit of a first for me but I'm mainly going for a social. Fish will be a bonus!

Cool - a few mates have fished there. Apparently maggots work well on there, in the colder months, not sure about the warmer months

Good luck!

Apprentices are getting paid to learn and until they are useful £2.68p is very fair imo. People who go to university get to pay £9k a year for the privilege of learning. I know which option I would choose if I was 16 again!

Better to become a merchant - earn £7.25 / hr out-of-the-box and with the opportunity to become a fully fledged
