baxi solo / main hea heat only boiler

fitted a main 15 hea heat only boiler for a landlord this wk and connected the flow and rtn using comp couplers but come to fit the cover and they fouled it so had to cut 3mm off the cover - is this common on these boilers . my mate solders the connections but I thought this was a no no - called baxi tech and was told you can solder if careful and the pipes can be cut for bottom entry.

I solder them on because as you've found, they foul the cover if you use comp
