The center of the universe
I experienced a very upsetting event today, and have thought about nothing else all day.
Without putting too much detail, a bloke opposite where I was working was on some scaffolding and a board snapped he fell to the ground and his screams made you shudder. He landed on his back and needless to say could not feel his legs.
By the time the ambulance got there and made him as comfortable as they could, he did have a tingling feeling back in his legs, god I hope he is going to be ok.

The reason I have posted this to my on-line buddies is simple , we all use ladders, scaffolds etc etc
PLEASE BE CAREFULL OUT THERE !!!!!!

You are all thinking a board snapped, it did, I saw it......the scaffolding was *ucking joke ( hence this is in the arms and I have not disclosed the location )

A horrible day

It's when they stop screaming and moaning you need to worry as a first aider to be honest, the quiet ones are the ones about to turn their toes up!

simon, I have finaly got the hill street blue link, LOL.

If it would have been a major company who was doing the work, well perhaps it wouldn't have happened.

But its things like this that make you think !!!! instead of going off to work thinking oh, that's not going to happen to me, well perhaps that's what he thought when he set off to work this morning, hopefully he is not in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

Not nice mate. Hope the ambulance got there quickly and he makes a full recovery. How big a drop was it?

We just presume were safe on scaffolding , scaffolding should be checked over every time its being set up but we know this isnt the case, i hope your colleague makes a speedy recovery , is there a site enquiry ?

We think about 4 meters but straight on to a load boards and paving flags, the house is being developed so no tidy garden.
Rozzers were called and were there for ages, but they wont have a clue about what a scaffold should look like.
I wont be surprised if there's a bloke in a suit having a butchers in the morning.

Bugger. Hope he recovers. Underlines why we don't do roofs , except our own and always walk away from customers who reckon it can be done off a ladder.

scary stuff. Highest scaffold i have been up is the roof of a 3 storey block of flats to replace flashing and i was not happy. Not good with heights, It takes me 3 or 4 trips up and down until i can do it with any sort of speed. And don't expect me to go up carrying anything!

And the scaffolding was decent.

Was about 70 foot up on scaff a few years ago about to makeoff some waste connections and clip some pipes started drilling with a hilti when the scaff moved away from the wall it had not been tied in I ******* shat myself and climbed back in sharpish and proceeded to rollock the guys doing the scaff who were based on site......hope the guy is alright ...regards Turnpin:uhoh2:

When I was a boy, got a job on site with dad's mates in summer on a lang homes site. Knocked out a doorway on 5th lift and some other rubble, proceeded to bomb it into skip..... Couldn't understand what the issue was with site agent and why he was screaming at me!
