Have been getting vibrating sounds from the casing of my Potterton Profile 50e, which seem to occur every 15-30 minutes, and more frequent at times. Gas Engineer has taken a look and has trace the problem to the vertical flue which appears to be corroded. Unfortunately he reckons that he cannot replace the flue, has it is not possible to find a replacement. Also he considers that the vertical flue is too close to the house. Remedy new boiler. Has now started quoting prices for a new boiler.

What I find strange about this epsiode is that I got in touch with Potterton, and according to them, they can supply a suitable flue to cure this problem. Has it will cost around £2000 for a new boiler + Flue to be supplied and fitted, I can't help feeling that I'm being mislead here, especially has this has already cost me £ 70.00. And now have the Gas unsafe label tie on, so have no gas or hot water.

Should I get a second opinion or cough up for a new Boiler? bearing in mind that the boiler is around 12/13 years old at least.

Would be grateful for any advice.

Best Regards
William

definetly a second opinion, most rattling boilers are because screws are missing from the casing !

if the flue is corroded and the boiler is 13 years old and the flue is too close to the house got to be worth thinking about a new 1.
