Central Heating Boiler Overheat Tripping

Hi,

This is my first post, so thank you for anyone that can take their time to help me out.

We have a Potterton Prima F 40 boiler. With the cold water tanks in the attic, hot water tank in the airing cupboard with a power shower pump running. The boiler was serviced in Jan of this year as well.

For the speeds

months the we have noticed that the little reset button has been tripping on the boiler. To my knowledge this is the overheat trip. There was no pattern to the boiler tripping out but now it is definetly more frequent.
Through my basic diagnostics I have checked,

• That the central heating pump is not seized (we have a groufos) by removing the silver inspection screw and moving it with a screw driver. Also checked it while on.
• The 3 year valve seems to be operational as I can hear and see in it in action.
• Bleed all the radiators when cold with the bleed key.
• Made sure the hot water tank temp was at 60.
• Tried turning the thermostat down on the boiler to around 1 or 2
• Tried the central heating pump at all 3 speeds
• The central heating pump does over run as well once the heating goes off.
• Tried programming the hot water to stop before the heating goes off.

What I noticed was that the central heating pump seemed to make a noise like there was air in the pipes... So I have tried putting the heating on only for 2 days at around d 26 degrees,there was no problem at all and no bumbling / air noise in the pipes.
Then tried the heating only, their noise came back, and after 20 - 45 minutes the pipes start claterring the boiler trips the overheat and exspells hot air in to the tanks in the attic. I also checked to see if the central heating pump was running afterwards, believe its called over run? And it was. I then tried with hot water and heating on, the bubbling air noise was back. Sure enough the overheat tripped...

I am a novice by the way just check things I can think of. I am at a loss with this problem though.... The power shower pump was installed but we are sure this problem was occurring before, just not as frequent.

Any help or advice would be welcomed...

That is my end plan, but I was looking for advice what may be causing the problem. I know my limits of DIY...

could be several things so letting you have one or two answers wont really help you but will really tee off your plumber when you keep bringing them up and he has found another fault

As much I honestly appreciate you taking your time to reply to my post. It is not really the advice I'm looking for. I was asking what might the problem be... As I am more than happy to look into the problem, I can then judge if the problem is beyond my abilities, then call a plumber and start spend money.

I'm just looking for what the problem might be... I want to know a little about what the fault may be as I have been done over by professionals previously. Because I want clued up on what the fault may potentially be.

I am at a loss to understand how someone who doesnt understand something, can know if they have been done over, in my experience when the heating engineer cures one fault and finds another, half the time your accused of doing someone over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Dont tar everyone else with the same brush. Get a recommendation for an engineer through family, friends, neighbours or colleagues. Failing that post your location and somebody may be near to you who can assist.

It's because you're not a gsr that we can't tell you, this is for your own safety. Not only that but we need to comply with the gas safety regs which, to be blunt, deem you as not competent.

The best I can do is recommend you find someone off here to take a butchers. There's been loads of guys employed off here by guys like yourself and I can honestly say I can only recall one bad report come back. That particular member hasn't been seen since.

Probably a circulation issue caused by sludge, pump, valves, something along theses lines.

Treat the illness not just the symptoms.
