is your Nest OT ?

Nests are OT, no reason to wire them up any other way, if the boiler is OT.

but if opentherm is installed then surely if the boiler is going to conflict on modulation mode? Is there much difference really between the to or just preference?

the OT stat tells boiler what to do

The OT stat calculates the required flow temperature and sends this information to the boiler. The boiler then modulates the boiler to maintain the required temperature.

To quote the Opentherm Protocol:

The slave (boiler) does not need to know how the master (thermostat) has calculated the control setpoint (flow temperature), e.g.whether it used room control or OTC, it only needs to control to the value. Likewise, the master does not need to know how the slave is controlling the supply.

The boiler controls the flow temperature by modulating.

T1 and T2 provide 12V power to the thermostat, which communicates wirelessly with the Heatlink.
OT1 and OT2 carry the digital signals between Heatlink and boiler.

Just been advised by Vokera that their Opentherm boilers even though they boast "Advanced energy saving credentials define this product range" they have advised me that NEST will not work when wired to Opentherm. As Openthem appears to be a standard protocol across boilermakers I would have thought that Vokera would have got their act together. Anyway looks like it just and on/off function with the NEST or buy BeSmart which looks pretty poor to me with very poor reviews. Anyway the boiler is excellent, very disappointed with Vokera and shame about the technical side of things. Thanks for all these who gave advice.

Maybe it's Nest, not Vokera which does not comply with the Opentherm standards.

I thought Open Therm was a bit advanced for Vokera! 😉
