Hi all, I have a Makita diamond core cutter & the clutch is slipping, had a new clutch put in about a year ago but it's had a fair amount of graft since then & i am looking for a new drill to replace, but want to try something different, would appreciate suggestions. Thanks:teeth_smile:

I currently have 3! A hilti I took with vacume when a hireshop didn't pay for work I did for them its the dogs but big and clumbersum a Makita that I havnt used for years and a hitachi out of the lot if dust isn't a issue I use the hitachi its lighter than my others and shorter and seems to fly through just as quick as for the bits I got a 5 piece set on ebay and I have only just replaced the 5 inch cutter after about 50 holes I would say! I have used the specialist hili core bits and don't find them anybetter so just use a adaptor to allow them to work with the hilti when I use it otherwise its just the standard hex that stays in them

I've got a milwaukee dd2160 its the dogs but too expensive for a core drill that doesn't get used much would go for marcrist next time

if I am doing large ch installs I use the hitachi for augers too great for that! and I find than if you use 600mm augers you get away without having to get the angle drill out

ive had my makita for a few years and its chugging away very well.

All i can say is steer clear of dewalt core drills from my experience, one thing they dont seem to make too well.

hilti are great but expensive, best core bits aswell if you have won the lottery. 🙂

if I was buying I would never buy hilti new due to cost but as I say I acquired these and I have also bought the occasional bit from other trades the 36v sds was good and I could core with that too which was a bonus when coreing through a gable end in the loft

Thanks for all replies I was looking at the Bosch GSB 162-2RE 240V Two speed Impact Drill suitable for Diamond cores, has anyone ever used one of these, although I think the Marcist seems to be the daddyo so far & am tempted.

just bought a ddm2. not impressed with it at all. no speed control on the trigger, difficult to change from low to high speed and the clutch stopped working after one hole drilled. which then promptly sprained my wrist (not happy) also the trigger is to easy to lock on and difficult to disengage. got to return it to doncaster for a repair. very disapointing piece of equipment.

Everyone seems to like there's you have got a Friday one let us know how you get on and if it works better when you get it back I was thinking of getting one of these

update on my faulty ddm2. took it to the marcrist factory in doncaster rather than posting to the online retailer and then waiting for them to post it backwards and forwards. tricky place to get into had to ring the bell and wait to be let in! But this is where things went from bad to fantastic, explained whet was wrong (look at my previous post) customer services manager said give me 10 mins and have a seat in the waiting room. fully expexted him to come back and say come back in 10 days and pick it up but no he said come through they had taken it apart adjusted the clutch showed it to me working got me to use it. replaced the cracked handle and took out the lock on the switch at my request! all in less than 30 mins from me ringing the bell. and was shown there new and other drills in the test area! ddm1 with there cores can core and hammer at the same time! top service total faith returned!

Fair play, can't argue with that. Worth the effort of going direct to factory. Bet they wouldn't want all customers doing that though. But then how many actually break do you reckon?! Either way a good result for you.

hammer action and ordinary core drills is an absolute no no. it just ruins the core. They have developed a core that can take the hammer and core. not sure its on general sale yet.
