I'm just reading the manual for a flue flow and spillage test for a focal point fire lulworth DFE that i'll doing next weekend. the MI does not specify that a flue flow test needs to be done but does state a spillage test is to be carried during annual servicing.

as far as i know that flue flow test is equally as important as a spillage test...is this correct?

Bass get your posts upto 100 to get into the arms, you will get more detailed responses to aid your training as its private.

Always Flue flow before spillage.

its the difference between lighting a little smoke match and thinking ahh, that doesnt pull at all
to lighting a pellet and thinking, crap crap crap crap

as you run outside with it after filling said house 🙂

KB, i was just a little confused as to why the MI did not say anything about a flue flow test....

this private room sounds rather exciting :-D...makes me wanna spam the hell out of everything...lol

You should do flue flow and spillage anyway if its in the mi's or not 🙂

what book you learning from?

the arms is very good, helped me alot during my apprenticeship.

post up a proper introduction of yourself in the new member section, you'll generate a heap of posts from that 🙂

flueflow shows flue integrity but a bomb will sometimes go through a nest, spillage will show if its right or not you always do both a flue flow will tell you if the flues complete, only serves one appliance, exits where it should and if a chimneys there if the mid feathers are sound or not

Flue flow is to enable you to test the condition of the flue. A spillage test shows the flue can handle the volume of the appliances products of combustion at full rate.

A guy I was working with only did a spill, I sensed something wasn't right with the state of the gaff so I got him to flue flow it (he wasn't pleased as I was learning) and one of the upstairs bedrooms filled with smoke. Since then he tests everytime.

ive had a fire that had been in ten years with the flue capped of with slate and another where the roofers had knocked a hole on the chimney for the ridge timber of an extension smoke was comming out under the slates but then i always use a good few pellets especially when im working alone
