Gas Engineer
hi

as I said in a previous post I had my acs today...

any way I had to gas rate a boiler and the data badge said at max burner pressure appliance should be 15.22kw NET input

my question is when you gas rate from a meter that figure must be gross (every time) ie given amount of gas gives a given amount of energy

but net figures you should divide by 1.11 to get net

is this true??

once again thanks

You divide gross by 1.11 to get net or multiply gas rate (m[SUP]3[/SUP]) by 34.7 then divide by 3.6 to get net! That wasn't from memory, by-the-way, as I carry a cheat list 🙂 taken from a book 🙂

Haha, I remember my first gas safe inspection. Started doing the longhand sums for the gas rate and the gas safe bloke just said, "what you doing that for? Don't you have the books?"

Moral of the story. Don't panic! We're all human.

glow worm boiler data badges confuse me at times some dont say net or gross just "P" and "q"

Duncan, where did you get that formula from? 😀 Never seen anything like it. Metric is ((2nd-1st)*3600*10.76)/time in gross so divide 1.11. Imperial (1040*3600)/3412/time, again divide 1.11. If its new boiler, badge will be in net.

It seems that everybody is doing it different way.

3600x 10.76/120 = 322.8

It's just a simplified version of the mathematics. I use 323 (Mazda 323) some people use 321

It's a quicker way of doin it and just as accurate

Anyone using gas rate smart phone app, believe its the modern version of gascalc.

Any good, worth the money or gimmick?

I'm a firm believer that you should be able to do this without technology

One day your iPhone will be flat and all you will have it a pen and paper. Learn the hard way. And do it proper

Don't get me wrong Simon, always use stopwatch notebook and pencil, just wondered whether the app was any good.

Ok. But if you do have an iPhone. Wouldn't it be cheaper to use the calculator and 323 it than pay £0.60 for an app that does just that?

Hi everyone

thanks for your answers but that wasn't really my question....

what i was aking is that when you take a reading from a meter is that figure always a gross figure?

and btw I use mr combi's gas rate calc seems to be pretty goood... i'm too lazy to use the calculator😛hone:

I got that formula when I was in College. They called them magic numbers. I also know the way you have showen. However, I find these easier to remember. 😀

I use a corgi slide calculator. Not an app so no need to worry about battery's running out ! lol. Regarding calculation, i remember on my inspection i had pencil , paper, calculator. On starting to go through the calculation, he saw my slide rule in my paperwork and said why arent you using that instead. I replied i thought you would want to see me write the calc down. Always used this bit of cardboard technology since !
