Hey guys, my first post here, I'm looking for a little information and advice, We moved into our ground floor flat last year and had this strange box screwed to the ball in out kitchen.

Recently we wanted to use that space so decided to look in the box and we found a big grey pipe, it looks like it might be a soil pipe.

After doing some digging around I found this plan for the drainage and I think it might be a Durgo Air Admittance Valve.

Basically am I right about the valve? what is its purpose and would it be possible to either remove it/ have it flush with the floor? I really was hoping to use that space in our kitchen for something.

Thanks in advance

Thanks snowhead,

So what does that mean for the potential of removing it / making it flush with the floor? Is it necessary?

It is something you don't need until you need it.
You could cut it down flush to the floor but still leave access to it.

cheers guys, I'll look into making it flush with the floor or something, I think knocking through the wall would be far too much work and I'm not that confident with that but I can look into cutting it and butting a cover to make it flush with the floor and have access there
