I'm on 12.20 an hour at the moment, luckily I'm only 10 minute drive away from my house so dont need to travel, working 10 hour shifts to earn around £120, but then on wednesday night I'm going to rip a bathroom out for £120 which should take 2 hours or so, I am only on sites at the moment because I need the money, still trying to get better contracts and my own work.

Anyone who supplies their own van and tools should be earning £60k minimum if they are any good, £40k for a paye with everything supplied. The glut of cheap (course cowboy) labour is to blame for falling prices, these idiots won't last 5 minutes at any decent firm.

23k paye? Maybe up north but not in the south! I get more than double that including bonus etc.

these jobs quoted at £10-12 an hour that comes out at about £23k a year, there are obviously people making more than that, but not much money to be made on sites anymore.

Site bashing pipe stranglers are really struggling but so are all the site trades. Occupied housing (preferably private) is where the money is now.

I was laid off 2 months ago (working for a big national company). Up until then I would not have got out of bed for that.

Since then I have been working for myself and I must say things are tough (not the time to go it alone with no customer base).

If I cannot survive until winter when the work gets plenty, I might be force into work like this but I still think it devalues our trade.

Wasn't e.on was it?
