I saw a newly installed Ideal Ecomax system the other day with an Ideal Low loss header installed in the vertical axis and it all looked as expected except the flow was at the bottom and the return at the top. I could see that this was the easiest way to connect the flow and return from the boiler as it saved having to cross over the pipes. The system appeared to be working happily. Does anyone know if it is perfectly satisfactory to pipe it this way or is it just a general gravitational rule that by tradition we observe.

Thanks

Header basics have a look here for the answer and youll see you might have got it wrong based on the physics of how things work, only my opinion but the indications are you follow tradition

Can't see it making a real difference in reality as the pumps are dictating the flow direction. Possibly destratify in the header a bit. The header is neutral still. More best practice than life changing, even so I would have swapped the pipes around but then I'm OCD

i hope the flow and return from the rad circuits was also reversed as that may have a detremental effect on how it all works
