hello, i am new to this form and am searching for a bit of advice.

i have bought a monoblock mixer for a new basin i have installed. the mixer mixes the hot and cold feed inside the tap, so i think i may have a problem with back flow?

the mixer has flexible pipes from it which i am confident to join onto the existing hot and cold feed. I am not a plumber by trade - do i have to have a non returning valve? i am not sure how i would fit it as i have only used push fit before and cannot see whether a push fit non returning valve exists, i have never soldered before, so would look to push fit or spanner tighten.

it is being fitted in a downstairs bathroom where the gravity fed system is in the loft and the hot water storage cylinder is next to the bathroom. no upstairs bathroom.

any help would be greatly appreciated....

thanks

rob

99% sure it is from the loft as i have a large tank up there and if i turn off the supply from this tank, the cold water stops from the tap straight away. it seems like good pressure though...

excuse my lame reply (not a plumber)...

i have a cyclinder in cupboard next to the bathroom, a condensing boiler in the loft with a (header?) smaller uncovered tank in the loft alongside the larger tank that is covered. it takes considerable longer for the hot water to turn off when i turn off the supply....

If your hot and cold are both gravity then you won't need any non return valves. Is the tap suitable for low pressure?

You can but push fit non return valves. But I don't think you'll need them.

as long as your new tap is for low pressure it will be ok, only when there is unbalanced pressure Hot from combi, cold from tank or
cold from mains hot from cylinder then is very likely to have back flow ! if u put nrv you will have pure volume of water

thank you for the speedy replies, the tap states 0.1bar, so should be ok then, which is great. I canot find any push fit no return valves, so may not be worth it? So long as a professional tells it should be ok, i am happier as was worried.

thanks

if you fit non return valves ,you will have low volume of water coming out of the mixer as Non return valves are reducing the flow significantly

dont loose faith mate ,just make sure you turn the water off before you break in to pipe work and get small bucket under to catch water

ok cheers, hopefully it will be a simple case of just tightening on the new flexible pipes where my existing hot and cold feeds are! I'll have a bucket ready. Thank you.
