mystery-new washing machine strange pipe noises

Bit of a strange mystery recently I got a new samsung washing machine and connected up the water pipes myself and it works fine accept during the water intake/outake the washing machine creates a rumbling or clucking noise of pipes yet in a different room (our living room to be exact)

The old washing machine never had this issue, I think under my house is a main water pipe and I think that is what is banging whenever the washing machine goes into spin mode which it does 3-4 times within an hour.

I moved the washing machine forward into the middle of the kitchen (away from anything it could vibrate) and same issue.

Is this something that can be fixed?

Yes all of them have been removed had to use the spanner provided, I then rechecked few times to make sure they were all out🙂

I followed the instructions and washing machine has ran 100% fine for past few months apart from it rattling in the living room, appears to sound like some metal clanging together for 2-3 seconds directly under the floor boards.

Is the pipework behind the machine securely clipped to the wall?......regards Turnpin

The faster spin of new machines can cause problems. When my father bought a new Miele machine he had to strengthen the floor as it was shaking the utility room to bits.

Take it the machine is nice and level both front to back and side to side.

during the spin cycle the machine will not be drawing water in i suspect it vibrations from the machine being transmitted down the pipe work is the machine tight against the pipes? try running the machine pulled out so it not touching anything

Some come with foam packing underneath that wedge the drum in plus the normal transport bolts

Thanks for the replies I am pretty sure its not the washing machine itself I moved it into the middle of the kitchen so its not touching any pipes or cabinets it is also leveled nicely on the floor. It does not shake or vibrate when running also.

Ill still check the leveling and check the pipes again, I just thought it maybe something to do with the water pressure flowing into the house or stopcock, worst comes to worst next machine will be a low powered washing machine.

My new machine , seems to take many more "Nibbles" at cold water as it fills,

rather than one good long fill ( + Thump at end )

Try turning a tap off quickly, if there is a bang in your pipework it's not the machine. If that's the case, try looking for loose pipework or/and fit a shock arrestor.

The type of floor good question ! I think its like a vinyl piece, its just one large piece on the floor almost stone type dots coloring.

I may try resting the washing machine on some foam or towel for testing.

Yes its a samsung eco bubble 8K machine also.

I don't think I have ever heard the noise come from switching the taps on and off quickly before, but will try that test that shock arrestor looks interesting and could possibly fix my issue just not sure where to install it on the back of the washing machine id hope !

Turn your mains water supply fully off immediately as the machine goes on its spin cycle.
That will prove it is not your water pipes if the noise is still there. Simple!
Normally on spin the water will not be going into the machine anyhow

Sorry I made a mistake its not during spin cycle its when the machine is taking the water in/out then the noise comes.

I will attempt to check the levels on the underside, bit tricky given how heavy the machine is but will try moving it in middle of kitchen at one point. I will also try some of the other suggestions thanks.

Ok I tried the cold water tap on and off real quick test and its confirmed the noise still occurs in the living room same clunk clank noise occurs, sounds like a pipe with water flowing under the floorboards I take it that is the main water pipe to my house.

So no point messing about with washing machine for now !

I don't think I am in a position to lift up the floor boards let alone carpet in the living room to actually fix down that noisy pipe, is a shock arrestor the best thing to try and any idea how to go about doing it ?

Ever since I had a water meter fitted to save money my pipes bang like a SOB.

thanks seen that on amazon but that site has it cheaper, looks good from the reviews on amazon most say it works or reduces the noise by 60-80% so will order it off.

Not unless there are any better ones going ?

Like most things. Bigger the better! This one will be the easiest to fit. And should eliminate the shock wave created by the solenoid valves shutting fast in your machine.

Went to install this today and it leaked water out the Arrestor?

He wrapped some white teflon tape around it, does this stuff seal it better to prevent water leaks?

Check packaging for rubber washer ( o-ring ! ) Sounds like a dribble running along , dripping off lowest point .

Use a torch for more light ?

Thanks yeah there was no o ring/washer in the package, not even on the inside of the device (checked both ends) maybe they forgot to add it in the package.

The instructions does say insert supplied washer into swivel nut ie where the leak occurs.

I take it that is what prevents the pressure or water from leaking, will email the company and see if they can send one out.

Thanks for link and info drip-dry but already got the other part recommended for 30 quid....

That part looks cheaper and good too, and your right the machine takes a blast of jet water not sure why these samsungs work in this manner frankly.

Hopefully get an email from these guys and get a washer sent to me if not ill return it.

I noticed my other water hose had a spare washer took it out but can see it is a bit smaller once I popped it into this water arrester, can see a gap in fact.

Ill see what fixblog company do maybe they can send a replacement or correct size washer, otherwise will ask for a refund or replacement, think just got really unlucky it was not included in the package.

Well got it installed and up and running and 100% no difference !

Water hammer noise exactly the same as before, I decided to try it at the washing machine and also directly to the water tap just to be sure but no difference at all.

I figured perhaps the unit was faulty so tried another one but exactly the same noise while connected to main tap and behind the washer.

Am surprised since the hammer noise is not too bad, just a clunk clunk (while washing machine running) I half expected this arrester to at least cut 50% of the noise but nothing is strange.

Am considering sending it back and trying something else, any suggestions?

They normally do work. It must be a noise inside your machine.

Yeah I checked on youtube and LG and Samsung washing machines all the latest models past few years are causing water hammer noise issues, a great deal of people bought the item I got and for many it worked and some not.

I can tell my samsung washer violently sucks in and out the water where as my past hotpoint machines did not. So its rather the design that maybe causing this device and other similar ones to not work.

1-2 guys on amazon said it did nothing for them also and no reduction in hammer noise.... guess must be the unlucky group !

I think ill just leave it and live with it and hopefully the washer can be replaced in 5-10 years time..... wow that sounds terrible lol

In good old days of multi turn taps , ( instead of ballofix =nice and shiny-ball with hole in),
valve could be left slightly closed to act as a flow resitrictor .
A usefull trick if pressure was a bit high , hence fast flow into machine .
