New tap leaking from fixing thread

I have just had a new bathroom fitted and there is a slow leak from beneath the hot tap on the basin. Sounds simple but it hasn't been fixed by the usual methods. The plumber has been back twice and fitted a new flexible pipe to no effect. tightening the nut seems to have no effect on the rate of the leak either worse or better. I have got under the sink and using a torch and mirror can see that the tap fixing thread has water in it for about half its length even when the basin hasn't been used. I have dried everything off with paper towel and the water reappears up to the same height. So can it run up the fixing thread or have I got a tap with a pinhole in the fixing thread? I swapped over the hot and cold tap using new washers on the flexibles. The fault move with the tap. I have examined the tap closely while it is off but can see nothing. Do you think I am now at the point of sending the tap back to the plumbers merchants but that leaves me with no tap whilst they sort it.

if the fitting to the tap was leaking it could rise up a few threads.
but if I understand what you are saying it is an inch or so?
if so it does sound like the leak is on the tap tail.

Sounds like its the tap that's faulty and needs to be swaped

Thanks for that I wouldn't have expected a leak through the metal of the tap but that is what it looks like. I'll take it off and look at it with an eye glass then take it back to get it swapped.

its not that unusual ive had a few the other possibiliy is water running back from the tap spout and getting under the tap and running down thread but sounds like yours starts halfway up
