I am trying to do a power flush at a friends house. The bottom union on the pump is impossible to access, can I remove the 3 way valve and connect there after disconnecting the power to the pump? There is nowhere convenient to connect in to the pipework elsewhere. I know you can use pump head adapters but I don't have one and I have the power flush machine on hire but only until Monday. I have found one online that says next day delivery so could get that in time if one of you guys say that would be a better option. I know some people remove a radiator so could do that. I have done power flushes before but not many and always managed to disconnect the pump.

Undo the nut & fit a new new pump valves... Otherwise heat it up with a blowlamp or cut the union nut off!!

Flushing from a 15mm pipe isn't going to clean the system properly I have found. Had to redo a few where colleagues have done them from rads.

Well I have to disagree with that re 15mm pipe.

It doesnt matter at what point you flush from. At some point the prevailing pump pressure / flow is going to go down many 15mm pipes

What's the thinking behind a powerflush not working off 15 mm? I've never had a problem with it before, usually do it off a rad anyway

Thanks for all the replies. The reason I could not get the unions off was because I couldn't physically get to the bottom one enough to put any sort of leverage on it. I think the pump was fitted and then other pipework added around it with no thought as to how the pump could be removed in the future. I bought a pump adapter and I will have a go with it today.
