I'm doing a job soon where i'm pretty convinced that if I pressurise the system then something will perforate or leak. I've told them to have all new pipework and rads but they don't want to pay for it.

Has anyone got some nice clause paperwork to basically say that if the system goes pop, it isn't my responsibility? I usually just say it verbally but this is in an upstairs flat and I don't want to get bent over if it happens.
 
My logic is, if it happens then he'll definitely have to have new rads! But, i'd rather not turn it down based on that, just not have my insurance involved if it does. I've told him the risks and he's happy to go ahead but having it in writing would make me happier.
 
Just put on a letter headed/ company paper

You have warned him that having a power flush may cause leaks / need new rads etc and that he accepts responsibility

Something to that effect
 
As above, just write it down on a letter headed piece of paper,
I've done it before where a bath was leaking due to the movement but customer just wanted it resealed,

Just write something along the lines of it is in the opinion of, Your name/company that doing XYZ may cause XYZ to leak blah blah blah due to blah blah blah therefor Your name/company will not accept any liability or offer any guarantee on the works carried out and blah blah blah system components, Signed and printed and dated by customer/customers
 
I do have something. Its a disclaimer i did. And its pretty draconian and covers all bases. I.e.if i go to turn a rad valve and it comes off. Its on you. If any part perforates or leaks. Its on you. In other words all i do it flush the system with a pump limited to 2 bar. And if your system cant tame that - thats on you.. lol

Why not to pressure test the system!? If it’s a pass – happy days! If not – more work for you – more happy days!
 
I always think an old system is gonna give hassle, they rarely do tho, I guess the old pipework & copper is probably better than the new stuff lol... You might have to change a few trv's or lockshield a but that's easy extras...

Easy solution.
Just state in your quotation that you will pressure test the system prior to doing any works. State what pressures you will be testing to and for how long.

Explain that the testing is required due to age and condition of system and put a figure on it.
The amount is payable prior to progressing further with the works.

And also state that the quote submitted is for works to be done if the system hold pressure.
 
i cant see any point in testing just do it and provided you have warned them of possible failures the ball is in their court
as gas safe said ive never had problems sealing systems other than the odd weepy valve a two storey house on gravity will have half a bar of pressure so going to one bar isnt a great difference the mains pipework in the house is probably the same age and thats at 2/3 bar

Im with steve. A normal correctly functioning sealed system blows off at 3 bar. A power flush is no more than 1.75 to 2 bar. Just advise them.
