Got a call to a job where someone had fitted a fire into a pre cast flue (flavel emberglow). He told the tenent that the hole wasnt big enough she then got a builder to take out the starter blocks and the flaunched top section that reduces it to the normal size. he then sealed all the sides up and when the other guy went back the fire was failing the spillige test. am i right inthinking this flue should be condemned or is there a way i can fix it. not really had much dealings with this sort of thing so any advice would be great. Cheers.

Yes condemn it as it won't meet the BS guidance (5440 is it?) Also the appliance will not be installed to manufacturers instructions if it is not designed to be fitted in a pre cast flue, plus spillage!

If it were me i'd condemn all pre cast flues as they normally fail or just scrape by the spillage test depending on the weather that day.. I've had to pull the kopex flue apart many times and clear out all the cob webs and debris to make them usable and safe

I thought as much. shes not all that please tho having spent £500 quid on a fire she cant use just because of some bad advice. the same fire is 600 for the balanced flue version. hope she has deep pockets. cheers

oh and the fire is designed to fit in a pre cast flue. and its still splilling with the restrictor removed although the pre cast is passing with the fire removed. think im just gonna condemned it. best to be on the safe side.
