Hi all
i am taking out an old gas fire for an elderly lady, it is the real effect permanent pilot jobbie with a open chimney, bit of a death trap but she wants a electric one putting in.
I know the chimney will need a vent putting in but does it have to be bricked up? As it stands the starter block to the chimney is there so will need to be knocked out, just looking for some tips on the easiest way to go about the job. it will leave the marble fireplace still there and hopefully the electric fire will cover up the old gap/ vent.
thanks Martyn.

Thermalite blocks with 75*225mm air brick . If flue lined leave cheese grater on. If not get a top for pot, to allow ventilation but keeps birds and precipitation out. Bricking up didn't have to be special just fill the hole. Leave a coin or newspaper behind just for good measure or today's most popular cigarette packet!

I love finding old newspapers when opening something up again or taking out an old tank.

A few weeks ago i was lying under a floor and all the change fell out my pocket. I shone the handlight on it and scooped it up and put it back in my pocket.

Went to the shop at lunch time and i had a farthing and a silver threepenny in my change.
Someone must have dropped their change in the same spot about 75 years ago (1934 thruppeny)
