Spyware apps?

Long story, so I'll make it as brief as I can
Just got off the phone to a mate (both mobiles)
And he said that whilst we were speaking, his screen was showing my gps position ( a google earth image of my street, with my house number and post code and a red pin marking the spot)
Also, more worrying, a message was flashing across his screen which was a text sent to me by a customer
I hadn't received this text, but it was obviously meant for me from the content (another long story)
He ( my mate) said that he had downloaded some app that a workmate had told him about and thought it was quite funny, until I reminded him that if he could read a message meant for me, then pretty much anyone could read his (que, very loud silence on phone)
So, does anyone know anything about this app, and how could he read something from my phone that I hadn't even received

I've heard of these but in my limited knowledge the spyware needs to be in your phone so 'another' can track it.

I've never heard of anything else

Yeah, it's as I thought, it needs installing on the device you want to spy on

That means JS your mate has installed spyware in your phone

Also, without your consent I believe it's an illegal activity so he could get in trouble

You can't just spy on a device without installing spyware on it

Reading the WWW, it looks like it's possible to remote control an iPhone without Jailbreaking the phone.

He 100% hasn't had my phone or installed anything on it, was with him last night and he showed me his screen as he rings other people, their gps position is on his screen and also their last received text, or in my case, a text I hadn't received
I forgot what the app was called (had a bit of a messy night in Cardiff) but I'll find out

Don't think its available on iphone, only android
