Strap on boss failed - HELP!!!

Hi I'm new on here hoping someone can help me with a problem. Had 1st fix done then the Mrs decided she wanted a bath which wasn't in the plans. Having paid for it once I decided to re-jig the 1st fix myself, all was going well until today!

I have run the sink and bath waste into vertical (internal) soil stack using two strap on bosses. I haven't used these before but it seemed easy enough. I solvent welded the strap, adapter/insert and pipe and all seemed to go well.....until I tested them. Only thing I can think is I used a 57mm holesaw the guy at the plumbers merchants thought it was either a 55mm or 57mm hole but said 57mm would be fine I guess that is the problem? It was an aquaflow boss. It leaves me two options I think.

1) There now isn't any room on the vertical stack. Can I use the horizontal soil waste pipe that comes off it and use a boss (ideally correctly this time) to attached the 32mm and 40mm wastes into the top of it?

2) Bring the waste pipes down through the ceiling below (internal garage) and connect to the soil stack lower down. This would be a pain as the garage ceiling has to be a fire break and I haven't got builders regs signed off yet.

I've attached a photo to make it easier to understand the probs. The waste at the bottom is the shower waste which is fine (not done by me!), the two above are the leaking ones. Where the soil waste comes up at the 90 elbow I will cut it and use a 110mm straight coupler to extend the pipe along to give me enough room to add in the two new wastes. It needs to move that way anyway.

Also should I just cut and cap off the 32mm and 40mm waste pipes coming out of the bosses that leak?

Any help/advise would be massively appreciated, cheers.

Hi, is the 4" below your bottom strapon glued in or is it on a slip joint? If it is cant you just take it out and start again?

Did you deburr the hole as this could hold the boss off the soil pipe and prevent it from sticking

Failed as in leaking, where exactly is it leaking?
You will need to fix the leak or seal the hole even if you move the boss position.
Because of that you might as well try again in the same location with another boss and more solvent glue.

The holesaw size is not crucial but it needs to be bigger than the lip on the back of the boss. If the lip doesn't fit through the hole properly it will leak.l
Nothing else to go wrong.
Peel it off, file the hole bigger if needed, glue it and let it set.

get it off clean it up with some strong upvc cleaner and try again. make sure there is no shards of plastic stopping it from sealing

It looks very tight. You may need to take that bottom tee out and replace it.

Maybe if you can somehow remove the strapons you can get different ones with a wider surface.

Is it me with a broken neck or is the Boss pointing down??

As in upside down or the collar isn't fully in the hole.

Would that need me to cut out the section with the failed strapons and replace with that? Not sure how it would connect at the bottom. The lowest strap on is right next to the section where the 4'' soil waste and 40mm shower waste connect to, ie not standard piece of 4'' pipe to slip over. Sorry bit clueless on this haven't seen/used one of them before.

Its goto come out so get it of and lets see a pic of what we have left to play with. You can cut fittings down sometimes not always the best idea but if it gets you out the muck so to speak.

no im sure you will be able to get them off and clean them up. and then just check they fit right before you glue them. make sure as said that the hole is big enough for the rim of the boss to sit inside the pipe and make sure the outer flange of the boss sits flush with the soil pipe. then away you go.

Phew thanks for all your responses. I'll try and answer all at once. I'll also put on a more detailed pic. Apologies if it's upside down having problems with downloading pics.

- Yes did deburr the pipe after cutting hole.

- It's leaking from the bottom of the boss, the pipe and collar seem fine.

- Didn't know once solvent welded you could get them off, I can certainly try that.

- Hard to tell but after extensive searching aquaflow boss seems to mention 50mm I thought by drilling 57mm hole that's what buggered it. Boss didn't seem to have much of a lip on it, certainly not like the one pictured two posts below yours.

- That would certainly be the easiest thing to do.

- That strapon could work do you know who makes that one?

- Must admit struggled to see which was top/bottom. Pushed the collar in as far as would go, should it be flush?

Both strapons leak so I must be doing something seriously wrong!

its no big job but if you feel your getting it so wrong or its getting on your t**s just get your plumber back, I cant see it costing you much.

Just get a tube of gap filler (polypipe GFC100) and slap it on. That is the easiest thing for you.
At least if it doesn't work you won't care  (it will work)

My Mrs said get our plumber to do it I thought I'd give it a crack, obviously haven't told her it's leaking. Quite happy doing it gives me an excuse to get away from the kids!

57mm hole saw is the correct size for every strap on boss ive ever fitted. Its also the correct size for the hole in the back of inset gas boxes not that you care LOL.

Got the bosses off today without too much trouble. If 57mm hole is ok not sure what the problem was. Does anyone have a preferred boss make? I find the aquaflow ones don't have much of a lip to sit inside the 4" pipe. I'll get some more and have another crack, I'll get some polypipe cement gap filler to as a backup plan!
Thanks for everyone's help.
