Got called to a job, no heating or hot water, worcester 240 in property. The burner lights, and then the pilot goes out and keeps restarting the process over and over again. I thought firstly, maybe there's a bit of muck in the pilot injector and it's not quite big enough, cleaned all that out, pilot now a good size. Worked ok with the case off, case back on, back to the same.

I could see the pilot was flickering quite a bit, so had a look at the flue terminal to see if there was any obstructions.

The customer had just had the outside of the house lagged, and the idiots who fitted it, put tarpaulin from the roof to the floor at an angle, kind of like a tent, which the flue was terminated in to!

I asked the customer, did they tell you not to use your boiler until the tarpaulin has been removed?

No, she replied, they just advised not to open any of the windows/door!!

Safe to say, boiler got capped off.
