I've just had a new Vitodens 200 W 35kW boiler fitter with weather compensation in my 3 bed 1930's semi.

The plumber left the boiler set so it is constantly on, and all of the radiators are warm to the touch.

My question is, is this the best way to have this type of system set? Although the house is nice and warm constantly I'm worried what my next gas bill will be like if the boiler is constantly on.

I've read the instructions and can see there is a timer to turn the boiler on and off at set times ie off when I'm at work. Would it be more efficient to use the timer? The plumber has told me that its more efficient to have the boiler working all the time, as its not heating then cooling constantly.

If thats right, cool. I guess I'm just after a second opinion.

Many thanks.

Alledgedly, but your house must be very well insulated.

Best way to find out is take a meter reading and let it run as it is for a week then set it to timed for another week and compare the readings.
If the weather has been similar over both weeks it will be fairly accurate.

House must be well insulated. If your going to work turn room stat down to 15 degrees and when you get in turn up to 20 degrees. It's a new way of thinking but this way the boiler will condense more than having boiler operating at high temperatures for short periods. I install viessmann boilers and the Viessmann tech department recommend leaving boiler on constant when used with weather compensation. As tamz said take meter readings.
