after peoples opinions on the vauxhall vivaro, renault traffic, nissan primastar. now i no these are pritty much the same van, i have out grown my transit connect and need a larger van ready for winter, which is a shame as my connect is a belting van low milage etc

but anyways what are peoples opinions on them? problems or things to look for.

i after the 6 speed version is it worth the extra monies??

i have 08 plate vivaro good van so far. Ive heard the earlier models gearbox though is made out of chocolate.

I've got a 57 vivaro. Decent enough van for everyday use but the transit is better.

New engine at 19k (water pump failed leading to cracked head) fitted under warranty.
New injectors at 40k (around £800 plus the inconvenience)
Returns around 35 to the gallon (6 speed)
Most uncomfortable passanger seat i have ever sat on.

my uncles a bt mechanic(vivaro bt,s main van) he says they are pants stopped me buying one, engines fail early, gear boxes fail early, clutches fail early ,they suffer very odd hard to fix electrical faults on the plus side much like a worcester they look pretty but are just as good at breaking down:wink:transits are sort of ok but rust like ....

see these are problems i have heard!
injectors
and terrible gear boxes, does anybody no what year the gear box issue was resolved?

and really think a transit is better?

I had an 11 plate vivaro for a day on hire recently, 6 speed box. I liked it, nice drive and seemed fairly economical - don't know what'd be like long term though.

my x gaffer had a dispatch old model a 02 plate i think did 140k and had had no major work on it, made me think of the new dispatch but really would prefer the size of vivaro/transit

The transit is a better van imo. Got one of those too and it has never had 1 problem (58 reg). Just as good to drive, more cab space, better cab storage, extra power points etc.
Pay your money take your chance.

just make sure you get a bracket over the right hand rear door wiring if you dont(tamz you need one)they can be broken into with a bread knife

I'd go for another transit too. When I promoted myself to a serious plumber, I sold my Transit Connect and bought an 07 swb transit and, on the whole, have been very pleased with it (niggly problems.)

Main reason I didn't consider the others was I felt (rightly or wrongly) that the depreciation would fall slower than one of the other makes.

I'd heard that, but i don't need it as we are all honest people up here (apart from certain areas of Glasgow)

yea they are all honest people in wales as well ,except the scum that break into your van at night who i have never caught and taken a sledge to honest he wont walk again

think the gear boxes were 51-51 around 140k going i think. ive got 03 but mines been done i think whatever vechile you get theres a chance os something going wrong , espically as were driving them around all day

I,ve got a primastar which is 3 years old and bought from new. So far fantastic van, packed full of extras as standard and good to drive. Only downside for me is consumption which is 30, but i do have it racked out and like a mobile workshop / wholesalers. I looked at all the others when buying mine but at the time others, ie transit, vito were all silly money compared to these which gives me several thousand headstart should anything go wrong.

Not had huge experience with the Vivaro, but what I've heard is not good.

I'm in a 57 Plate Transit at the moment, its had a few faults. Starter motor packed up and an intercooler pipe split. But apart from that its been ok.

Its been designed for a tradesmen IMO, plenty of storage space, cubby holes.

It has a 12v power socket in the driver's glove box meaing you don't have to run cables across the dash for sat nav.

If I were spending my own money though, I'd have the previous Transit, no where near as nice to drive, but more reliable IMO.

I had a 54 plate Renault Trafic LWB for 4 years from new, never let me down once.

Cracking van, tried to down size to a pick up for extra seats -- bad move.

Kev.

I looked at the Vivaro and decided against it as reports were not good. I bought a Transit LWB which is rock solid and has enough room to take the whole street out for a picnic including my shelving and racking, pipe etc.
The new Transit is coming out early next year so I'd def buy another.

I just saw this thread.
By coincidence I was looking at a Vivaro today - double cab seats 6 - looking through the windows of one which was parked in the street and thinking it would suit me.

This would be instead of a car but used as family car most of the time with advantage that:
  • Mr TP can use it for work when needs to - if his van is otherwise engaged...
  • Can be sign written
  • Can fit everything in - kids bikes, double pushchair (we have twins) suitcases when on holiday, etc!

I think a "crew van" could be better for us than a 7 seater car for the above reasons. But this thread suggests No to Vivaro - anyone suggest anything better?

To answer original question - i don't know but tomoro i will ask my husband - he seems to know more about vans than boilers!

Primastar / vivaro/ trafic are all the same van and as per my earlier thread, mine has been fantastic but has been driven sensibly and not thrashed within an 1" of its life like some of the ones i see. A friend of mine has got the mercedes vito crew van, in fact has had two, which is a great van but as per anything with the 3 pointed star comes at a cost.

My Vivaro is an 09 plate, bought brand new. Not had any problems with it so far but seeing as its just 2 years old I wouldn't expect any. The one thing Im not keen on is the lack of decent storage space in the cab. But its a nice drive and the 6 gears are the business (especially when I zoom past the little egg crates with the baked bean tin exhausts on the motorway).

bought a 09 plate vivaro with 45k on clock silver 115 ps seems pritty nice shame its a base spec one but for 6.5k all in with 10 months warranty left im happy chappy!

Ive had two first was a 54 plate swb i brought when i first went se only had normal maintanince issues with it sold at 103000 ish miles on it, only sold as brought a lwb so could get ply in full sheets. As mentioned only problem is lack of cab storage
