I would like to buy a new diamond drill, the two main contenders are Eibenstock EHD1300 Or Marcrist DDM1 1200w. I'm mainly using the drill to core waste pipes and soil pipes (38mm, 52mm and 117mm).

So, which one is best?

Kind regards

Sasi

My Makita 8406 has been with me for 5 years now.

Its drilled countless holes up to 125mm

Its got a clutch mechanism, side handle and variable speed and hammer action (but not for diamond drilling)

At circa £250 its earns its keep

Havnt needed to look at anything else

I have the Marcrist DDM2 which I believe has been discontinued now, been very pleased with it, if I had to replace I think I would go for the DDM3 rather than 1.

I had a mate txt me about ten minutes ago saying he has broken his wrist coring a wall today! I hope he fell off a ladder because i have the same drill as him

Russ Makita is a kids toy mate ! You wanna try the best !

Aw man I said no swiping

But the Makita instructions clearly said you need to insert 2 AAA batteries (not supplied) so it cant be a child's toy as they take 3 AAA bateries

He was using a Makita 8406 core drill, we both got one for 300 notes from Plumfix when on offer start of this year.

I have just been and viced mine in the garage and the clutch kicks in with a bit of effort and vibration at full speed, what can cause a clutch to not slip?

Answers on a post card, it was his left wrist, drill still with the site manager on 110v with new transformer, lad is 6 foot and not a streak of pass

Not to offend and hope your mate has a speedy recovery

I have snatched the clutch a few times on slow speed and them drills have such an amazing torque but....

Was he using the side grip handle? Never use the drill without that, that's a disaster waiting to happen and if your up a ladder your heading for a fall, never use a powerful drill without the handle, up a ladder, that's death waiting to happen, in fact never use a powerful core drill up a ladder, that's just not safe.........

no wait, never use a drill needing two hands to operate up a ladder, that's just not safe, always work from a platform

You had a drink bud:teeth_smile:

This is not ever in the site managers hands anymore, a power cut wouldn't stop the mechanical clutch from working would it?

what can cause a clutch to not slip?

Most clutches on core drills friction type. Basically a couple of copper washers and a bolt.
Tighten the bolt and it needs more force before it slips.
A bit like setting the slip on a fishing reel.

Nothing wrong with having a beer, it is a Saturday night after all, ive spent mine in my garage with my stilsons wrapped around my drill, testing the fruggin clutch?

His missus won't speak to me now either, because he has said thank F it wasn't his right wrist, or being off would have been carp because he has just got virgin media fibre 100meg LOL
