I plan to invest in a multifunction tester, voltage indicator and proving unit etc since I learned how to in a defined scope part p course. It is often a part of our job to undertake minor electrical work such as moving sockets, fuse spurs etc and I want to test my properly. I will also be looking at joining a competent persons scheme such as the corgi electrical so that I can notify my work that is done in kitchens and bathrooms including running new cables to electric showers, immersion heaters etc.

I'm just wondering which other plumbers here have bothered or do you get an electrician in even just to move a fuse spur? We once just replaced a fuse spur like for like and had a customer asking for a certificate, these days it's hard to get away with not doing things properly even though the cps schemes don't seem worth the money. At least it will add credibility to my business.

I am also looking to join a cps for plumbing, what have you chose to do about notifiable work?

I did Part P Defined Scope but call in my electrician for most of my electrical stuff. I'm happy to change a pump, immersion heater and re-wire central heating. Also happy (if wire and circuit breaker sufficient) to change an electrical shower and happy to move a socket.

I draw the line at extending or installing any wiring or breaking into a wire for a spur.

If you're interested I've a Kewtech KT61 Multifunction Tester that I don't use anymore. It needs calibrating but is hardly used (something like 5 times at the most!) I bought it in Nov 2008.

Thanks, I think I know which one I'm going for though, been posting in the electricians forums. We do a lot of wiring for our heating systems and are especially experienced in complex system fault finding, we still often install s plans etc too.

We've only ever used a multimeter but called in an electrician a few times to run new immersion/electric shower cables etc. I plan to pick it up slowly and I'm sure it will be beneficial to me as I love to learn and further my skills.

I have a megger multifunctional tester, a megger insulation/continuity tester, a kewtech checkbox, martindale approved voltage indicator and proving unit and also a fluke voltage indicator.

does not get much use at the moment due to lack of work but its all good quality kit, best to buy brand new.
