Arrived at a job yesterday and started sorting out the paperwork when I noticed a woman frantically trying to get into a house opposite. At first I thought it was just a domestic, but she tried to flag down a few cars and vans going by and attract some passers by without success. I then just knew that something was wrong so myself and my apprentice went over to the house.
By this time the woman was really upset and she pointed to the living room window. I looked through and saw an old lady lying collapsed on the floor and with not a moment to lose I booted in the front door, called an ambulance and the police. The old lady was 87 and the woman's mum.

What got me was the amount of passers by not wanting to get involved. How would they feel if it was their mum?

I faded off into the background and just left as I'd helped but didn't want to make an issue about it. Thankfully the old lady is going to be ok as I enquired about her through her neighbour.

Well done for helping out, far too many people dont want to get involved nowadays.

too man are scared to help for fear or repercussions , good on ya fella id of done same

i once got locked up for kicking 7 shades out of a bloke who was smacking his wife in the pub and i mean proper punching her

Well the point here was that it was an 87 year old, this is a difficult age, getting to the end of her usefulness and starting not to enjoy life so much

Suppose it would depend on the condition of the door you kicked in,if old, unpainted and maybe a bit rotten, nothing lost by kicking it in and saving the old lass ,so she can watch a few more episodes of corrie(also if daughter was fit maybe to a good reason to assist but if woman 89,daughter probably round 60 ish so not much chance of that)

But if it was a new door in good nick think you was out of order and now through your actions ,some poor immigrant family is left waiting on the housing list

imho

Wonder if he was into older women and was pondering the possibilities of giving the kiss of life?

Good on you, System3. It does seem these days that the only people willing to try and give a helping hand are the emergency services, vicars, priests, etc and tradesmen. Many of those "public servants" and service personnel are only interested in the new messages on their mobiles, how their pay packet is going, what they're going to wear for the evening out, how much they can claim against their plumber, etc, etc.

I've read a fair few stories about good samaritans in the local paper in the last few years they all seem to be the physical labour type of person (farmers, builders, off duty policemen and the like).

Again, a pleasant read, System3 and a true Christian.

I stopped a couple of blokes slapping a woman in town once - ended up taking a kicking off 5 of them and when the police arrived the woman just said she didn't want to make a statement and walked off!

I'd have booted the door in though and done the same!
