Undersizing of Gas Pipe

Hi Lads & Ladies,

I spoke to Gas Safe today regarding the property who made the complaint regarding under sizing of gas pipework. I remember exactly what was used on this job, and how it was gas rated.

My boiler is a Vokera Unica 28kW. The gas supply and connection is in 15mm and runs for approx 2.5m @ 15mm. The rest is in 22mm and has no other gas appliances installed. My appliances gas rate / pressures on commissioning were perfect. The customer has a pressure drop and contacted BGas (who have already approved the appliance) for a service call :32:
they pointed out to her that the gas supply may be undersized, this is why she had approached GS :/

In the MI it does not state, 22mm to within X amount from boiler, all that it states is that no pipework smaller than the gas connection (15mm) can be used, and that all pressures must suffice.

I am still worried about the inspection, as anyone would be, I have the number to speak to Terry (Glasgow GSR) tomorrow.

This was a problem customer, who initially tryed to refuse payment for myself, due to other reasons (boxing in of pipework etc.) She was chancing her arm, and this was already sorted out!

there is no point in worrying about it , Wait and see what GSR say about it , I had a mate who pipe up in 22mm only for the customer to get a range gas cooker installed and reported the guy to GSR for undersizing her supply even though she use to have an electric cooker before , without going into it this customer was a total nightmare and was the teacher at the guy childs nursary , so he ended up doing a re run FOC , I would have told her to FO

The fact that there is now too much of a drop, well it could be under sized. You will probably have to go and uprate it to 22mm.

You are 100% sure your pressure and GR were good when you commisioned?

What's to say the governor isn't faulty now anyway, let GS go and have a look , have a brew, slag you off and then email you with a date to put it right by.

I know Dan, aint you guys the same, youd rather not have GSR on your case though? I dont mind my ACS, or an annual inspection, but it feels terrible, knowing that a complaint has been received with your business name across it!!

I wasn't digging you out, just saying that sometimes we're rushed, and can miss things.

I completely sympathise, and agree that as a small business, it's stressful enough without the added worry of GS visiting your work. I hope it all goes well mate.

I hate to contradict myself, but she has even requested I do not attend the inspection .. which makes me wonder, what nonsense she could say. I know Terry will know what customers are like, and predominatly check gas work only etc, but its the point.

Don't panic mate. Gas safe have to follow up all of these complaints no matter how petty it may be. They've seen it all before. He ain't gonna be there to have a pop at you or to fine you or strike you off the register. He'll check it out and the absolute worse case scenario is that you'll have to run a couple of lengths of 22mm. Don't let it get you down or you'll be a nervous wreck. You've done your tests by the book at the time and that's all they can ask.

M8 dont sweat it.
I have had been reported twice by 2 customers that were nutters. Just wait and see. You have done nothing wrong by the sounds of it

3m length of 15mm (include 0.5m for any elbows) would give you a 1mb drop on its own + any drop on the 22mm side. You may be a bit under. If connecting a combi with a half inch gas connection always run the 22mm (or bigger) to within at most 1m from the boiler.
If it is found to be under by not much you will get a wee slap on the wrist and told to upgrade the pipe.
