Hi all, please can someone give me some guidance on what I need please. I have an oil fed boiler with a pump fed ch system and gravity fed hw system which I currently can only operate together at the same time. It has 3 pipes coming to/ from it. Someone has previously installed a 2 port valve on one of these pipes but not wired it in. It also has a stat on the cylinder which is wired in but does not appear to work. It is also fitted with a potterton ep2002 programmer.

I would like to be able to control the heating and hot water seperately but also be able to set alternative times for them to come on and off. Do I just need to have the valve wired in and replace the programmer? I had in mind a Honeywell st9400c, would this do the job I want it to do? Any help would be much appreciated.

It would be useful if you could post your boiler make and model as well as the zone valves if you know what they are.

Also, you don't mention whether you have an existing room thermostat?

It's oil. It's a system boiler. Make and model are irrelevant. But then if you had a clue and weren't googling your answers you'd know that!

To Jetblack81. If you are looking to properly control your heating and dhw individually then it would be a good idea to convert your system to fully pumped and to wire up as a y plan.

You're a moron. Stop offering advice on subjects which you have no knowledge of.

At this moment in time finances prevent me from doing much to the system so although a fully pumped y plan would be ideal but it is for another time. Also when funds permit i would like to move the boiler to a more suitable location. As it stands the system works fine i would just like better control, make it more efficient and finish the job that has been started previously. Currently when on the boiler wants to kick in about every 15 minutes for hw even when the room stat has turned off the ch so it is constantly using oil. I assume this happens as the boiler is using its own stat to control the water temp??

I don't use a search engine to find answers so stop assuming. Although, people on this forum do use what they have learn't and pass on that advice - which is what a forum is about. In fact, one of the regular forum posters even states this in their signature!

The reason why I asked the OP for make and model information is so that we can offer specific advice on suitable programmers. As you will note, many on this forum have appreciated the help I have given in the past with wiring (both oil and gas boilers).

It seems that some on this forum have a vendetta and make sly remarks at every post I make.

Afraid you can't have it both ways, you're gonna have to spend some money to save some in this instance. If you post your location there maybe somebody on here that could have a look and give you the most cost effective solution.

Where does the pipe with the valve go to?
Are there any branches after the valve?
Make/ model of valve?
Size of pipe with valve?

Take the hint. You offer advice that is often promoting illegal working while also demonstrating a dangerous lack of knowledge on critical safety items on a heating system. I stand by my original charge that you are not in the trade however well meaning you are trying to be.

Sounds like someone has had a go at converting it to a C plan.
Check if the zone valve is on the pipe running to the bottom of the cylinder.
If it is look up C plan wiring and wire it up.

It would be best and more efficient if it was converted to fully pumped

The valve is an iflo zone activation valve. It is fitted vertically in a 28mm pipe that comes out the back of the boiler at its lowest point. There are 2 other pipes that go into/out of the boiler as well but these are higher up. The boiler is a danesmore 21/32 floor standing. It goes up into the airing cupboard above although I have not yet identified where it goes in there, I guess either the attic or in the hot tank. There is a branch off of it before the valve going to a 22mm pipe and then into 15mm pipe to rads downstairs. The 22mm also goes upstairs as well I assume to the upstairs rads.

That piece of information is irrelevant. If you had any iota of knowledge on the subject, you would know that.

And you're right, there is a vendetta against you, largely because you continue to post complete tripe, passing yourself off as some kind of engineering prodigy, which then leads to other (knowledgable) forum members having to correct your misinformation and in some cases warn the OP away from following your dangerous/illegal advice.

I would like to apologise on behalf of the UK plumbers forums for this thread being hijacked in the manner it was. It was unprofessional and we should have dealt with the problem behind the scenes.

Could you please take a few photos and post them up? Pictures speak a thousand words.
