Saw a discharge pipe on the side of a house earlier with an iso' valve on. Couldn't get pics though as I'd have looked like a peeping Tom. The side of the house was freshly painted so I assume it was 'randomly spewing water' and the iso was fitted to make the painter's job easier.

Funny you should say peeping tom. i saw a 4 litre plastic milk carton in half and upside down used as a hopper but the cust was in backgarden otherwise pic done..

Always wondered why we didnt use those tap style wall iso's here tbh.

The vast majority of plumbers would probably love to use them but it would mean using flexi connectors to attach to them as they are designed for.
God forbid that the majority on here would want to upset the half dozen " Glitterati " on here that hate flexies.
Guess we will just be the sheep and do as we are told and keep those pesky foreign things out of our country.

Thing is, here, a burst flexi means a new kitchen ceiling in most instances. Over in Europe where the have their heads screwed on, most ceilings are concrete, the floors are all tiled and in many cases have a gully in them, and if a flexi does go, there's a convenient tap on the wall to turn off the supply. Not a crappy iso valve.
