Had a call out yesterday (saturday). New tenants moved in Friday, switched immersion and boiler on. That evening the landing was full of steam and water dripping off the ceiling, doorways etc. The neighbour had popped in and torn off some boxing in revealing the CWST which has been boiling. This is sat above the stairs on chipboard then on 3 steel bars - the heat of the water had flexed the tank, not so visible in the photos. No prizes for working out the cause....

Took ages to find the cold water feed to the cylinder, that too was expertly boxed in, almost invisibly. The box also houses the circ pump - a good find. Sadly I had already drained off the CWST and cylinder as it was leaking badly from the immersion.

Flushed with success

Found this in a school boiler house. Reckon the caretaker had enough of water dripping from the pipe duct! The angled roll of plastic insulation covering is holding the thing against the wall. Thank god for duct tape! :hurray:

ECV gas valve lever handle is the wrong way round. Must always fall to the off position not fall to on.

Isnt there rules wen working on a church ?

ohh, could be too close to the corner!!! bet they didn't seal it from outside (looks too high for them to bother) and i'm sure there is some sort of rule about having it poking out too far

Fortunately not on this occasion, just a leaking compression fitting, couldn't help but laugh at the DIY instal.

Saw this on Twitter. It's not his work, it's something he'd spotted. Don't think he's a member of the forum as he'd have already posted this if he was.

Push fit on gas. Surely not for real (RIDDOR and lock them up). Two flexi's? well then, and what was the point of that meter bracket?

Hmm, people have had their acs revoked for taking pictures of the training centre acs bays and kicked off the course!

Looking at the iso valve ......I don't trust what customer tells me !!! No plumber will do this , looks like hubby's job

Maybe the push fit stop end was just temporary until he could fit the gate valve?

^ That's a joke, don't anyone flip out!

Yes, better not say anything controversial. Even in jest. You might get your ticket taken off you or something similarly severe. This is serious!! Gas is serious you know! It's not to be laughed at.

Had a phone call from a customer today asking me if I could come round and price up fitting her bathroom, I proceeded to ask for a few details when she bust into tears explaining that a friend of a friend had started the bathroom and halfway through had done a runner. That's not so bad I thought but then she tells me she had paid them up front.......Oh dear not good. The scenario, husband jailed for unspeakable actions with her children and she's vulnerable . Absolute pair of unscrupulous bar stewards fleeced her for the best part of £800 she had saved to have the work done. I went round t o have a look and this what she was left with

Snake connecting the toilet up
Rise to the soil pipe, glued in with silicone !
Toilet not flush to the wall, wooden battens used. Would have been a doddle to instal correctly.
Floor spacers used on the tiles see gaps!!!!
Tiles mis aligned all over.
Basin not attached to the wall, wastes not connected
Bath not connected waste or feed pipes

A complete sack of carp , which has left this poor lady high and dry!

I asked her how she was bathing her three kids, downstairs in the kitchen sink she says !!!!!

Yes Plun Bob 66 it is all very sad but you can only blame the Public / Government cos no one seems to be interested in a licensing scheme for plumbers, like most other countries have which would stop all this shoddy work in a trice.

That wouldn't stop the "friend of a friend" types that claim to be able to do these jobs despite not actually being a plumber etc. Ultimately down to customer to be more savvy & not be blinded by the fact they think friends & family won't rip them off.

Yes Tom, Wouk have to agree but there are some very obviously gullible people out there that are vulnerable and easily taken in, this being a case in point. Without being rude, this customer wasn't the sharpest tool in the box sadly. An easy target!

There are indeed these types out there that are easily taken in. Frustrating when as a reputable tradesman you walk in to these situations & see the aftermath.

The unfortunate knock being the "tarred with the same brush syndrome"

The shoddy work of the few tends to make us guilty by association in some if the publics eyes.

People like this will get done time and time again, it's not right and never will be. But it'll keep on happening.
