Baxi 80 Eco - nightmare !!

Brief description of job : on demand boiler fires up, ignition continues to spark for 8 seconds once burner is lift. Burner stays on for no longer than a minute tops, just drops out no reset light on or anything.

changed flame rect probe an lead an ignition probe, same dance (couldn't get a spark lead).

had checked polarity at board, gas wp at valve an resistance top 2 1.6 - good, bottom 2.8 good.

fitted new board, same dance but noticed that lead began to short out everywhere on burner etc...

went out an got one of similar boiler, the same problem baxi said get a new one, rectification ain't happening..

went miles out me way, come back an now all the boiler is doing is pump running an proving switch making..

no continuity at aps, fan resticance 40 which is ok..

going back tomorrow with an aps tomorrow an hoping to good it works !! Lost a day on this more or less...

im thinking I could even have a dodgy pcb, it has put years on me this one

Earth on burner..... Check all the way back to the earth into spur.

does it need resetting? normally if the leads shorting out the rubber boots shagged that the lead passes through on the combustion box had a few like this ,as em pointed out though some parts work on a earth return so check the continuity of the eartns everywhere

It was firing up no problem, then I noticed sparks across the burner an ign electrode so then when out to find an ignition lead.

came back an all I had was just pump running ? No fan or any ignition then ??

so best checking everywhere that there isn't a loose earth anywhere ?

Put the aps in an it's doing the exact same thing !!!

Could a dodgy earth be causing all of this ?

Yep. Rectification uses earth on way back? If case has a negative pd then ur pooped also if earth is up a few volts then can also be a prob. Not in a steel frame building are u? Stick your volt stick on gas meter, if it goes red u got juice on the earth.

no mate, just normal brick mortar house..

if there is a problem with the earth, why is this just happening now ? One of them things, that's just occurred - problem with the earth ??

as I said, got new probes, new leads, new boards an am getting nowhere 🙁 it's really grating on me to be honest

Testing for polarity, isn't going to pick having juice on the earth ??

Could be loose wire could be some ones given flex a tug! Might be on the ring in house, new socket or something.

Cheers Erm, you've given me hope !!

I have convinced myself its a dodgy board ?? But, a dodgy board wouldn't have the ignition sparking on the burner, the electrode an the bottom cover of the burner would it ?

Sparking all over ? Check insulation on spark leads and electrodes also!

The ignition probe (new) it seems to spark on the tip of it onto the burner an at the bottom, were the screw attaches an holds it in place.

as I said both electrodes an leads have been changed, this is what's puzzling me.

Im getting ignition still at the burner for upto 8 seconds once lit, then it stops an burner remains on an then drops out, not rectifying ??

Not rectifying ! But something wrong with sparks at base of electrode, do u get a spark at the rectification electrode as well? If u do it suggests that there is a bonding issue . As sparking back to rectification suggest that not earth as its going back through board and jumping back to earth on other side of rectification Wheatstone bridge thingy.

the only spark am getting is on the ignition electrode, underneath it, on the burner (mainly).. Nothing on the right side probe, the flame rect..

the only thing that isn't new around that area are the red grommets that go over the electrode, they look ok an the spark generator

the red gromits ARE WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT​ they cause this exact same issue

How about using insulation tape as a temp ?

but changing them cured the problem
