Hello guys.

I have got a few question about a situation a came across today. i will explain first then ask my questions at the bottom.

all help and advice and views are useful so please tell me them 🙂

so basically a friend of mine has broken one of taps on his bath mixer. no idea how but he has bodged a repair to stop it leaking. He's then gone and bought 2 single taps to replace the mixer but is not wanting to do it himself as he doesn't really know what he's doing. So i said i would have a look and sort it out for him. as i could use the experience.

so i rock up today. first task was to remove the side panel to the bath witch was a challenge in its self. made of faced 4mm hard board painted and sealed. i had to remove the carpet and gripper to be able to pull it out was hard to get it passed layers of wall paper and the tiles. That removed i had a good look. long story short i couldnt get anywhere near the pipe work. not with hand or tool, the waste from the loo and sink was just too close. after faffing about thinking and looking i just couldn't see how to get to it so i put everything back and explain the problem. i was there for about 45min.

I think you would have to remove the boxing around the waste pipe witch would also mean removing the sink and Loo.
all of a sudden a simple short job involves moving half the bathroom out. and there isn't many stop valves.

what i want to know is in this situation what would you do?
am i being a little silly?

also:

if this was a paid job. would you still charge?
would you charge full rate?
what would you advise the customer?

and any other thoughts? not to sure how to rote the pictures ?

Thanks for any feed back.

You will get into it if you knock the bit of framing out

That is when your contortionist training comes in handy and also your ability to work in braille

That is god damned tight.....

bearhug set would be your best bet methinks.

then fit bristans easy fit stuff for future replacements and fit the new stuff on flexis.

i wouldn't charge, you haven't actually done any work.

if i was able to do it i would charge full rate for the pain of doing it!!

if its that awkward i i say you can have everything removed to do it but i will go away and think of a solution.
take a ton of photos too.

This is what i was thinking. im just concerned that even if i take that out there isn't going to be enough space between the fittings and the waste pipe below to get a good grip. the access is crap lol.

thanks for the advice guys

Just put a big price in, looks a pain... Probs allow 1/2 day to get it all back afterwards

I took a whole bath out once to swap the taps! Never again.
I have a Fein Multimaster tool now. I would use it to cut the old nuts off and then fit the new taps using push fit flexi hoses.

i did suggest to his wife that maybe it was time for a new bathroom. 😀

i do need to do 2 onsite visits for my course. could be a good deal in it.

Thats a good idea. although i think i would have to trim the length on the pipes down a little.
