I an tell you now that I would not even change a washer for £5 , replacing a stop tap for £5 is a joke!! ive had some awfull ones!!!!!!!!

I had some agency call me last week offering same sort of rubbish rates ended up having a convo about how poor the rate was . He agreed however he did say their are so many gas fitters and plumbers about that rates won't go up anytime soon.

And thats your problem saturated market .

Even saw an advert today where plumbs getting offered £12 per hour and decorators £12.50 !!!!!

Companies like that will never have guys on books as then they'd be responsible,,, there will always be problems because at the end of the day IF U PAY PEANUTS U GET MONKEYS,,, OOO OOOO OOOO OOO AAAAA AAAA

Is that working in voids or occupied? In voids you could make your money easy enough but not supplying pipe and fittings to boot

biggest problem is there is prob so many people taking a cut of the money the customer is paying, main contractor, sub contractor, agency etc....... i bet they are making a good rate.

It's a joke, then to add insult to injury the custard will tell you what they are laying out for the job!

The biggest problem is theirs loads of guys who will do it for those prices! Lash it in and run away! Companies who work in this way should be accountable for the mistakes and mess their sub contractors cause.

I wouldn't say mugs. Some people really need to pay the bills and feed the family. I've been so desperate in years gone by that I'd work for peanuts just to survive.

I hear yah AP but looking at some of those prices I think you would be making a loss. Fuel, admin, tax, materials etc.

COMISSIONING AND LLGSC £12.50

WOULDNT EVEN ANSWER PHONE FOR THAT...HAD ONE LAST WEEK BOILER SERVICE AND CP12, wanted to pay £35 for the lot..told him to do one, like chewing wasps

My thoughts exactly. The buck stops with the small guy at the bottom getting paid peanuts where really the company should get looked at as well.

That is really the only way of stopping the boilers that get thrown in.

My bet would be it's housing association or council work. The money that company's make on these contracts now is peanuts so the prices are always low. But u could still do a grand a week without breaking sweat.

Only if all the houses are next door to each other. Otherwise it would be a struggle

This is why I am trying to move away from any form of contract work its laughable now . When I worked for mears their was a gas contract manager who was promoted from painting decorating !!!
The rates are pants have been for several years now .
What I suggest doing tell them you will do the work but send over your terms conditions the ones with the full set of bells where any form of downtime is charged at pound a minute . Any parking issues is chargeable to them travel time is by the minute plus mileage etc etc.
Reverse the trend I say

Oh come on, nobody powerflushes really do they? Do they?!?...

Not on any contract I've ever seen!! Domestic privately owned yes but contract work no.

I know one bloke doing between 2 and 3 combo swaps a day at £200 each plus extra if they need a gas run

I used to do two. But I'm getting old now and less greedy!

I do a lot of boiler changes and that's pretty much all i do (580 in 5 years) and if someone can change a combi and flush the system, fit condense (these can take an hour or two at times) commission correctly, make good and explain the operation to the customer and be home by lunch I'd love to watch! Not to mention top floor flats issues parking and so on. I do all the above fit scale reducer mini exp vessel and magnaclean, change all rad valves and upgrade controls where needed and that's a good 12-16 hours graft.

2-3 combi swaps a day, wow thats 6 hours for the fernox cleaner to circulate alone..........

what i ment to say is £30 for 3 bottles of fernox on ebay as a bonus.

Just do what i do now, i sign somebodys elses gas safe details on all the under gased, non flushed £150 boiler changes i do. Sumtimes i even gas rate them and patch the flue, probably atleast 5% of the time.

No they don't, it's not possible in the time/ money that people are paying now. I know when a bloke I worked for subbed me to iguana he told me not to powerflush them as the prices were carp (and the only job I got picked up for not powerflushing was a full new central heating system!)

BUT the customer has usually paid for it to be powerflushed so it should be done and people shouldn't take the jobs on if they are not going to do what they are paid for.

Lets be honest nearly all these jobs where your given boiler change or conversion are never flushed. I expect also the majority are not even gas rated a nor pressure's checked accordingly. Helplink only offer you £160 to fit a new combi with a power flush , cust pays about £3000 and expect a power flush yeah right . As far as I'm concerned if i choose to work for help link for e.g i am helping to put them out of business by installing utter carp.

That can't be a bad thing !!
