My existing Ravenheat combi boiler needs replacing. Its in the kitchen on the wall that faces the front of the house. Having the kitchen done up so thought now would be a good time to get a new combi and move it too up into the loft. My house is two storey detached. To fit baxi main 30 up there I have been quoted £1600. Is this a good price or too good to be true price?
Basically my gas meter is on side of house so will run a pipe up the side of it, through the wall and into the loft. In there the boiler cant fit on that wall as theres a big box on it already for my solar panels that I aquired through a lease scheme. So the pipe then has to run across the loft to the other side of the house so the boiler can be attached to the other wall. The existing pipes will be capped in the kitchen and he is going to have to do some pipework to attach the new water pipes to existing hot/cold water pipework in my bathroom on the second floor up to the boiler.
I havent had the written quote yet, supposed to get it today but that is what he said it would cost. I presume it also comes with a thermo stat. I had another quote yesterday for the same job with another firm putting in a valient boiler for £2350 over my budget £1600 is around what I wanted. If not abit more. I did ask the guy what he would charge for a cheaper boiler to go in and he said would only be about £200 cheaper so still over 2k. So is he overcharging or is the other guy going to cut corners? Or is that just a reasonable price?
I suppose as a consumer who is totally clueless to heating/plumming you always worry about so called "cowboys" and is the person fitting going to do a job or not. Hence my turning to this forum for advice!
